Question about a dark theme for the Notes app

I was rear ended several years ago and now I have very light sensitive eyes and brain damage. White backgrounds are extremely difficult for me to read. Using the invert colors is an option but it is also a pain because not everything looks great inverted and some sites and apps don't need it at all. I love the notes app and use it every day. That white background and yellow hyperlinking makes reading and understanding anything exponentially harder. Not to mention, it is environmentally friendly to have a darker themed background.

Does anybody have a recommendation or some accessibility tips for this? I tried editing the pad.css file within the Notes app but I'm not a web developer per se so I was reluctant to go hog wild and put a bunch of "background: black" lines in.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you do not use VoiceOver, I suggest that you set the Accessibility Shortcut to Invert Colors. This will allow you to simply press the home button three times quickly to turn invert colors on; and once it is on, you can press the home button three times again to turn it off. It is a toggle. Look at the bottom of the Accessibility screen under General Settings to find the Accessibility Shortcut settings.

Thanks for the recommendation. I tend to do my best work at night when everyone else is asleep so I tend not to use Siri but I suppose this would work for Sierra too given Siri is on both OSes. I didn't think about this earlier but I know I could program a custom hotkey to turn it on and off. I am just trying to minimize the switching from white to black and vice versa as much as possible as it is really hard for my brain.
