In general it is better used for natural speed reading where you get benefits of more natural human voice prosodies.
As the Mac has much more powerful hardware, latency is significantly smaller and should work well on nearly every Mac for nearly all use cases.
Just ensure to install some voice that provides good balance over quality and performance like Ljspeech - medium.
