Overpriced, overhyped. Even the new homeview display has a better chip than the macBook neo. Limited in memory, 1 of its 2 ports is USB 2.0 (is this 2010?), slow storage. Apple could at least have used up leftover M-series silicon. You don't get access to several of the current ingelligence features in OS27, and I'd imagine OS support will be limited to a couple of releases at best. don't waste your money.
Which also means the lack of Apple Intelligence features is also wrong, because the home view has support for Apple Intelligence, so both would probably have support for Apple Intelligence. I would buy the neo, if it had more than an 8 GB option, and had a higher storage capacity option than my MacBook Air.
A friend let me to use her for sometime. Honestly, I did not observe any noticeable difference in performance between my M4 and the Neo with the A18 Pro chip. Consider my daily routine on the mac includes what could be basic for someone else, so lots of reading and writing, lots of media consumptions and internet browsing. So nothing significant to see any sort of difference liek media rendering and so on.
For me it is a great device if you are doing what I am doing.
As I said, if it had just a tiny bit more options in regards to RAM and storage, I would probably buy it. If there was a 16 X1 TB option I would definitely do that, especially that would have more option for storage over my MacBook Air M1. I just don't really see how 8 GB in this AI world is going to help anyone. Even for some very small local AI stuff that I do, which is very rarely, this Mac now puts up a bit of a struggle against it, and mine has 16 GB of 512 GB so.
I apologise, it's the new apple TV 4K that has the better chip, announced in the same event. I should drink more coffee in the morning before going on forums. My points about the Neo still stand. Having used one, I found it a pretty horrible experience even compared to an M1 MacBook Air.
The Neo does support some of the more basic intelligence features, but not all of them such as some of the more advanced SIri voices and possibly a lot of the image processing stuff which requires more RAM and likely a better neural engine. Apple don't make it very clear (probably because they wouldn't want to admit to releasing a device and then announce limitations to hyped features in the same year). https://support.apple.com/en-gb/121115
I have a macbook neo and I use it on a daily basis. The most advanced thing I do on it is xcode, and while it is a bit slow to compile stuff, it's not bad. I can't complain. not necessarily a criticism, but my new iPhone has 50% more ram and four times the storage, 256 gb on the neo vs 1 TB on the iPhone. I still think it's a great macbook for travel. Once my computer science courses start next fall, I will get something a bit more adequate for the job.
I bought myself a MacBook Neo in April as a reward for the successful launch of a project where I was the system program manager. I mostly bought it as a toy where I could play with my first Mac. I fell in love with it, and I use it every day. I use it way more than my PC.
I don't stress it very much, but I usually have Mail, NetNewsWire, Mona, Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Journal, Siri and Safari open all at once. I'll also bring up BitWarden, Excel, Word, Joplin, Messages and Contacts. The only time I get a not responding message is when running Duck Duck Go.
I also love the form factor. It's smaller and thinner than my laptop, and I'll bring it when traveling for those times I just don't want to have to use my phone.
I recommend it, but I can only speak to what I use it for.
I have the Citrus colored Macbook Neo. I got the one without the touch ID since it was my first Macbook. I really enjoy it. I mostly just use it for web browsing, e-mail, and that's about it. I don't do a lot of file management or create documents, so it's perfect for me.
I'm leaning that way only because of finances. There will be a few apps on it. Some radio/podcast app named simulcast. Not sure if anyone has heard of it. Yes that is sarcasm. It is seriously the best app out there. I will do messages mail and web browsing. Maybe some vibe coding other then that that is about it.

Re: eWaste
The statement about the chip is simply wrong. The MacBook Neo uses an A18 Pro, whereas the HomeView uses regular A18.

Love it!
