How to set notifications of new email to be read automatically

Hello, I am a new Macbook user. I just bought a Mac air m3 and I have become pretty much comfortable with it. My questions come from the fact that I come from Ubuntu Linux background with Orca as my screen reader. Also I just mentioned emails but my question applies to several notifications. So I have successfully configured apple mail and I am able to read, reply and compose emails. My problem is that while mail is opened all the time, I don't here a new mail notification when one arrives in the inbox. I have herd such alerts in Ubuntu (and I suppose in Windows also ). Similarly when I am copying files, I am not able to here progress updates. Is there a way to fix this?
