Getting stuck in password field

I usually navigate the web on my Mac with the single key nav on, so I turn quick nav off in order to type. Lately, I get stuck in password fields. Pressing arrows doesn't do anything. I have to get out of it using the touch pad. Thankfully, I have one. Has anyone had this problem?

VO keys plus arrows or tab

I have this problem too. I found out that pressing VO keys (control + option) plus the arrow keys or just pressing tab will get you out of the text field. The arrow keys won't do anything even if quick nav is on.

Hi,
I use what Laura said. Just use the VO keys, CTRL+option+arrows left and right to get out of the password fields, arrows alone won't work

Thanks Laura

Using VO right arrow worked fine. Funny how the most obvious solutions elude me, sometimes.

No problem! It’s a bit

No problem! It’s a bit annoying... but at least it seems to work all the time. I don’t understand why this happens, it doesn’t make sense. Must be a bug of some sort...

Reason for this behavior

There is a security feature on the Mac which hides keypresses when focus is on a password field, in an attempt to prevent the password from potentially being captured by an application that shouldn’t have it. Unfortunately, this behavior has the side-effect of blocking Quick Nav, since VoiceOver does not see the keystrokes that control Quick Nav functionality. It isn’t even possible to turn Quick Nav on or off while focus is in a password field. Keystrokes involving the VoiceOver modifier keys are not filtered, so VO + arrow keys will work as expected. Apple could probably update the Mac to address the issue, but it might not be an easy fix.
