Hi,
This seems as though it would be a simple thing, but I cannot figure out how to do it. On the PC, if I switch away from an app and back to my browser or email, my screen reader is where I left it. On Mac, it goes to the first focusable control on the screen. This makes me much less efficient. How do I solve this issue on Mac?

This is one of my biggest pet peaves on the Iphone as well. It's particularly bad in Safari because after a while the Safari will auto-refresh if you unlock your device or navigate away from it for long enough.
Finding one's place
In Windows most screen readers have the ability to set a temporary placemarker to which you can move focus easily on. These screen readers also have the ability to turn off or limit the refreshing of web pages so that focus isn't lost with a screen reader. I don't know if "VoiceOver on the Mac has such capabilities. If they don't, maybe a suggestion to Apple would help.
Much as VoiceOver is "accessible", screen readers on the PC seem to be not only "accessible" but more useable and productive because they are more customizable. These small things can make a differnce to one's work flow and efficiency.

On mac, VoiceOver seems to keep my place, at least in Safari. I'm not sure which setting does this, though.
On iPhone in Safari, when you switch back to it, you can touch the middle of the screen, and VoiceOver should be just about where you are scrolling-wise.

Regarding mail on mac, if you press return on a mail, thus opening it in a window, it will keep the place.
