deals on a used macbook pro, is it worth the price

Hello everyone,
I was searching around for a used MacBook pro, and I found one used for $599. but is it worth the price? and can I get an apple care protection plan if I do decide to purchase it from, say, amazon? I just wanted to be sure before I make an investment. I herd of the newer models, but I'm not a fan of retina displays, I just want one without a retina display. hopefully apple will still support the 2011 model onword. thoughts?

Applecare has to be purchased in the first year of ownership

If you buy a used MacBook whose owner has previously bought AppleCare, then you can get coverage for that period. (Technically, the owner transfers those rights to you, so the machine gets registered under your Apple User ID, but I think in practice if you bring the machine into an Apple Store, they just check to see that it is covered by looking up the serial number.)

Used Macs that are purchased refurbished directly from Apple come with a 1-year warranty and are all eligible for you to purchase additional AppleCare coverage to extend that period. In general, other used Macs are not eligible for AppleCare if it was not already purchased for that machine.

Thanks everyone for all those suggestions, but to be honest, I'm probably going with a new MacBook laptop. that way I could buy a newer product that comes with an apple care protection plan. but who knows, bestbuy or other computer stores might have sales, so I'm better off browsing around. and once I do get my MacBook, I could transfer all of my music files and other work documents from my thum drive to my MacBook. Plus, the air is easyer to use and it has a longer battery life than the pro, according to positive reviews.
