Chatting with teams on the mac

Happy holidays to everyone today. I recently installed Microsoft Teams on my Mac. I see the table with people I have started chats with but how do I chat with them? When I go to a person there is no edit box once a name is highlighted. I can also see my chat history with them. Please assist. Lol

Pick a name in the table. Hit enter. It should put you in the edit box. If not, hit cmd-r.
