Which app is everyone using to edit photo descriptions and other similar metadata?

Hi Everybody,

I'm just checking in to see which apps everyone is using to edit the descriptions and other metadata associated with photos.

Every search I have attempted using something associated with "exif" produces results that do not clarify which app I should try, especially since most of them are not free.

Which ones work well and are VoiceOver accessible?

Thanks,

Darrell

Labelling photos.

Hi,

I use ExifEditor Exif Editor and Viewer by Harald Meyer

You can open a photo then you have a list of values and data you can add to or change.

Once you have VoiceOver’s focus on the entry you are interested in double-tap it and flick up or down through the menu that appears. Double-tap again on say Add/Change and you are normally in an edit field where you can input or edit data if the field already contains a value. Press Change when you are satisfied with the entry. Now make any further changes if required. Once done remember to choose Save and a duplicate of the original photo is created with the data you entered.

The app is VoiceOver friendly and easy to use.

Hope this has helped you and others too.

Malcolm.

Malcolm, is one of these tags the filename (e.g. "img001.jpg") and, if you had done the two-finger double tap and hold to re-label the picture in the Photos app, if you were to open that same picture in Exif Editor, would that custom label appear anywhere? I just decided to purchase the app and the app is pretty accessible, except for the "About" button not being labelled, but that's an easy fix. Thanks for the app suggestion.

Hello,

When you label an item via VoiceOver that description is not available to other apps.

So if you add a description to a photo as you describe that label is read by VoiceOver but is not added to the properties of the photo that are shown by ExifEditor

No idea where VoiceOver stores its labels or whether they can be edited or shared between devices.

Hi, just wondering which item I use to label my pics. That is, what property in EXIF I should use to label photos so the description is correct?

vo seems to put description in a custom field, and i can't see any advantage for that. first of all, it is not visible to other apps, but more importantly, if you alter anything in the meta, the saved info will exclude the description vo created because other app simply don't know how to preserve this custom field.

Adding a label to your photos which field to use.

Hi,

If you want to add a label to your kid’s photos then there is an Image Description field that VO will announce and will be available to others too.

The only way to lable photos reliably for all apps I found so far is to change it in the Information in Photos on the Mac.
