Weather Gods 1.8.3

By Weather Gods (Scott), 5 January, 2019

Forum
iOS and iPadOS

Hi All,

Our latest update should be hitting the App Store shortly.

The main change for this update was to improve the weather description in the notifications for rain, snow and thunderstorms. Previously you would receive "Light Rain" even if it was just a few showers or drizzle. Hopefully more useful.

We also added new notifications for sleet, hail and strong storms. For example, you may receive notifications for freezing rain, wintry mix, thundersnow and many more. To receive these notifications for sleet and hail, you must have configured a rain notification.

You will also find improvements to the weather descriptions in other parts of the app as well. For example, Voiceover will give a little more detail for the Water and Ice Gods on the Home Screen and the summary text in the Timeline. Sometimes, you will find that the short summary will indicate if the weather is for AM or PM.

In terms of the next update, many of you will be pleased to hear that I have started building our severe weather service over Christmas and New Year. I hope to eventually offer alerts for 40 countries but will start with the US and Canada. There is quite a bit of complexity in the severe weather alerts for the US, and I'm still trying to get my head around the granularity (states, counties, areas, zones) and the different types of alerts.

As ever, thank you all for your continued support of Weather Gods and if you are enjoying Weather Gods, but haven't left a review, then we would be grateful if you could leave a review, please. Good rating and reviews help our presence for weather-related search terms and in turn drive sales. We are still at the point where James and I are personally funding the app to pay for data etc, but I'm hoping things will start to pick up in 2019 and we might break-even.

I hope you enjoy the update :)

Regards
Scott

I'm excited to try this update.
Will you have to set up different indiviual notifications for all the knew weather types?

Also, I am very excited to hear about that!! I can't wait to try it! Then I can take off my other app for severe alert app! I only use your app for everyday weather. But I have 2 use other apps for allergy and severe alerts! And I agree with conplexity! Why would you have an advisory when you have a warning?

I hope things pick up for you! I really hope you can keep this app running! Because this is the only app I've found that's 100% accessible! Happy new year and hope it's another wonderful year for you and Weather Gods!

Yeah!!

Thanks Dawn :)

Nope, no new setup required. The only requirement for sleet and hail notifications is that you already have the rain notification setup.

Hope you like them!

I'm looking forward to this update too. You guys have done an excellent job with this app. I've found the native iOS weather app to be good, but yours is honestly the best. The notifications are great too. It would be cool if the various weather sounds worked outside the app too. That way we could listen to them in the background. Or is this already possible?

Weather Sounds

Thanks Ekaj,

I did try using different sounds for notifications, whilst you only had one, it was ok, but with 2 or more arriving it got a bit chaotic :)

We do have the weather sounds via a Siri shortcut and this will load Siri, load the weather for your current location and then play the sounds :)

Question.

Using apple watch 3 and iPhone xx. I am noticing that in my apple watch, I am just getting the direction of wind, miles, and whether is gentle wind and no gust. Nothing else. This is happening for almost a week. Before I got the tempeture and more info.

Watch complication

Hi Holger,

Which complication and watch face are you using? I did a quick check on my series 2, using modular face and the large modular complication and seems ok.

Thanks
Scott

Don't think I've tried that one. I will give it a go ...

Forgot to mention. I use battery with that one.

I just tried and it gave me all the info - I didn't even think I supported that face :)

The only thing I can suggest is to go into the watch app on the phone and reset the complication to weather gods. You will have to pick something different and then swipe to weather gods again. Hopefully that will sort itself out.

Done. I change it. Top use battery and low use weather gods. Works. Thanks.

Hi Holger,

Very close now, we are just wrapping up.

I will wait. It is worth doing so. The app is the best. As good as peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Just downloaded this app yesterday, and I love it! Left a 5 star review in the App Store.

I hope you guys can start making money off this app because it is a real winner. Have you thought about offering the option of user initiated donations that some other apps have? A sort of unobtrusive option (in Settings, for instance) with options/tiers for those who would like to support production of the app?

I really enjoy this app and how beautifully it displays a lot of relevant weather data. I know others do too and wouldn't mind kicking in some extra dough from time to time.

Just a thought.

Happy, happy

Thanks. What about the issues with face in the apple watch? Right now works well only in the Mickey Mouse face which I like but would like to change. As I stated this app is as good as peanut butter and jelly sandwich, Hot chocolate, Hot water and Women.

Hi wxboss,

Thanks for downloading the app and leaving the 5 star review - surprisingly - they help a lot as it means we get higher visibility in the search rankings and then hopefully the sales follow through.

We are still trying to figure out the monetisation - we aren't quite there yet with covering our raw materials such as the weather data and running our cloud servers. The costs will go up a little more with severe weather alerts, but I am hoping they will also lead to more sales, fingers crossed.

Thanks for offering to help with donations - I'm not sure where Apple stands on that kind of thing. I suspect, we will have to eventually go down the route of a subscription model, although anyone who has bought the app will not be asked to pay again for something they already have.

Severe weather alerts is very close now - I am just squashing a few tiny bugs and preparing the new screens shots and copy text for the store.

I'm hoping people really like them as the engineering that has gone into developing them has been through the roof.

Hi Holger,

LOL, love the app comparison!

I can confirm that I have tested on as many watch faces as I possibly can and did find a few bugs in the process.

Let me know please if there are any in particular you would like me to check and I can report back?

As soon the new comes I will do so. Right now all the faces that I was using had issues. Thanks.

Yes, I am happy. This is why I love this app. You are very quick on responding and adding suggestions. Keep it coming.

Modular Face

By DPinWI

3 years 11 months ago

I use the modular face primarily. I have the Weather Gods complication in the middle, right after the time. It works great. I get temperature, precipitation, winds, and sunrise or sunset all in one. It even tells me the location so I know it's current information for where I am. At one point, it also said the humidity, but I haven't heard that lately. I'm not complaining as I get more than enough information now.

Modular Face

By Weather Gods (Scott)

Hi DPinWI

I also use the modular with weather gods in the middle. The reason why you probably don't hear humidity is the app tries to prioritise the modular, only displaying what it considers important. In theory, humidity would only show up if it was considered to be dangerous, when high humidity is combined with high temperatures.
