voice over and gesture lag with new IOS on Iphone

iOS and iPadOS

Hi there, I updated to the latest IOS 14 last night on my iphone 8 and have noticed that when navigating between apps that there is a slight delay in responsiveness with voice over than before I updated. There is also this odd beep that occurs when i am moving between some items within apps like lines and such that I would very much like to turn off because it's driving me crazy, also accidentally finding myself in the app library when I don't intend to be, As usual, the updates are probably awesome but I find many of the features I simply don't want and would like the phone back to the way it was pre-update. Any thoughts or similar experiences with this?

Beeping can be turned off

By Siobhan

Hi. The beeps are it trying to recognize images say in facebook or things like that. I don't care for it either, simply because our phones are just on the edge of this cool feature, so we get barely anything while newer models, obviously reep the benefits. Anyway to turn it off, go to sounds and you are looking for something called detect images or something like that. Sorry i'm not more help, but I forget how buried it is. Another thing I turned off, was the beep when the screen locked. I see no reason the click doesn't do the job just as well. I don't need a new phone right now, but will be interested when I get a new one eventually how much more tech will have updated.

Customizations

Also, you can customize various settings under voiceOver->Verbosity, VoiceOver->Sound, and VoiceOver->Intelligent VoiceOver. The beep you mention is, in my opinion, the newly added sound that is letting you know there are rotor actions available on the focused element, which can be turned off in verbosity. As for not reaching the app library, just make sure you don't swipe further left with three fingers past the last home screen page.

A word of warning about turn…

By Jo Billard

A word of warning about turn off that beep: I discovered yesterday that if you turn it off, it will affect the audio beacon on Sounddscape, so if you use that app and you use that feature, you may want to leave the beep on.
