VO unresponsive on iPhone SE 2nd gen

By David A, 22 May, 2022

iOS and iPadOS

Something happened to my phone and VoiceOver is not speaking or responding to gestures. I am considering wiping my phone and restoring from a backup. I have never done this before; are there other options I should consider first? The phone is an SE 2020 version. IOS is up to date and frankly, I cannot find any tech person who has sufficient familiarity with VoiceOver to offer useful guidance to me.

That’s the only way,but a computer is required

Hi,

To restore your iPhone, put it in to recovery by pressing the power button and volume up. Then it depends in what opperating system and computer you have. If on windows or macOS Mojave or earlier, use iTunes to do this process. As soon as your phone is plugged in, iTunes will recognize your phone and offer to restore it. Select restore. The download process will begin after you accept the license agreement. On a Mac with macOS Big Sur or later, plug your phone in and put finder in focus. Then press command-N for a new finder window. Interact with the sidebar and go to locations. Next to that is your phone. Select iPhone and a restore button should be present. Then agree to the license agreement and the download should start.
Good luck

Check your mute switch

This happened to me one time and it turned out that my mute switch had accidentally gotten flipped to silent mode even though I virtually never use that feature. Also, make sure speech hasn't been turned off with the 3-finger double tap gesture.

Restart

Just Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button. Next, press and hold the power button until the phone turns off. That should fix the issue.
