Trying to Decide on Updating to iOS 9.3 (Now 9.3.1) From iOS 8.3.xx

By Adam, 2 April, 2016

Forum
iOS and iPadOS

I own an iPhone 6 with 64 gig & currently run IOS 8.3.xx.
I have no issues & device seems to continue to run well even when updating apps optimized for IOS 9.x.x.
Wondering if I should take the plunge and update to IOS 9.3 (now 9.3.1).
Would appreciate any insight, advice & comments from everyone.

Thank you.

Try to update

Try to update to iOS 9.3.1. You will miss out on the new features if you don't.

What Kept you on iOS 8.3?

Hi Adam, my guess is there's a reason you've been staying on iOS 8.3 this long. Is it accessibility bugs you're worried about? If so, feel free to ask about functionality etc. and I'm pretty sure people here will be willing to tell you whether whatever it is you're wondering about works or not.

Go for it!

Security considerations

I would highly recommend upgrading. There have been a lot of security updates since that version. Just for the security updates alone, it would be a good idea to update. 9.3.1 is a very stable version.

It All Depends...

Respectfully, all the security fixes in the world won't be any consolation if a feature Adam relies upon is broken in iOS 9.3. I upgraded. I encourage all my friends to upgrade. But only after I tell them to review the bug list and make sure any of the limitations aren't things they can't/don't want to deal with.

Almost a no-brainer

If there is a particular reason why you must stay with 8.3, stay with it. But if you can, the speed, responsiveness and accessibility issues that plagued 8.3 are now resolved.

You must upgrade

I highly recommend you upgrade! A lot of annoyances that existed in 8.xxx have been sortted.
For instance, the bug related to slowing of Voiceover slowing down to crawl forcing an eventual reboot of the phone, has been fixed. There are of course, are stability fixes too! Please go through the bug list before you do though. & yes, before everything else, please backup. Not through ICloud but ITunes...
Good luck!

Upgrade!

iOS 9.3.1 is very accessible, stable, and performant. Of course, unless there is a specific use case or app that only works on 8.3, then don't upgrade.

With the update to 9.3.1 issues with the Google app

So I love the update, especially the fourth finger swipe to switch between open apps – my only issue with the upgrade to 9.3.1 is google app is not working correctly any longer.
After doing a voice search in Google voiceover sounds like it is in a tin can, and sometimes links lead nowhere. Not sure if anyone else has reported this bug!

Can you submit

Can you submit feedback to Google support?

Thanks for the Input

Appreciate all the comments & information re: my upgrade to IOS 9.3.1 post. I am still deciding whether or not to take the plunge. However everyone has given me some good reasons to move forward. My iPhone is running well with IOS 8.3.x & there aren't a lot of new features in IOS 9.3 (9.3.1) that excite me. However security is always an issue so that may be the best reason to proceed. My biggest fear is upgrading from a stable & useable IOS to one that may give me trouble and "break" my device in one way or another. And yes I know there will probably always be a chance of some type of "bug" popping up with any IOS advance. So I get that & just need to conquer my fear & hope there is a work around or fix if I encounter one of those pesky bugs. Again thanks to everyone for your input.
