Trouble closing apps down on Iphone 16 E unless I use my Orbit to set the rota to actions

Hi All,
I recently purchased an iPhone 16 E and still getting used to not having a home button.
However, I am having a problem, which is once I, double tap the back of the phone to bring up the app switcher before I can swipe up with one finger to close apps I need to use my Orbit reader display to set the rota to actions.
Then I can close the apps down by swiping up as normal, but as soon as the orbit is disconnected the rota doesn't stay on actions same on touch screen I find the swipe up with three fingers gesture really difficult and the rota gesture via the touch screen a nightmare.
So I just want to bring up app switcher then simply swipe up with one finger on the app I want to close is this possible on the new iPhone 16 E like it was on the I phone SE or is it a new IOS bug.
If anyone has any tips or suggestions on how to rectify this, I'd be most grateful.
