iOS & iPadOS
hi everyone, I would like first of all to thank you for your advice on me using the IPhone. I am doing pretty well. However, there are a few questions I would like to ask if I may. Is there any app to read web pages without me having to keep swiping to the right all the time? I have an iPhone keyboard míni, however, I would like a full computer keyboard because I love touch typing nevertheless, it should be a portable one. Could anyone advise me on which one to buy please? I have bought text grabber and so far had no luck with it, I could only read one line of text. Does anyone know of a better OCR app for a blind user? I am trying to use digit-eyes, however, no mater how I turn a product round, let's say, a tin, I can't get it to scan the bar code. What would be the best way to use digit-eyes please? II hope my post hás not been too long. Thank you once again for your help. Best regards, John
A two finger swipe down will start reading from the current position and automatically advance without further swipes.
Hi. The 2-finger swipedown gesture is a good one for reading continuously. As for keyboards you'll really do well with a Bluetooth keyboard. There are several out there that are full-sized, but are quite small enough that you can cary them under your arm and they aren't too bulky. Apple makes one, but it's kind of pricey, and my only other real problem is that instead of having a battery compartment somewhere more logical, Apple thinks different and has the battery compartment on the right side of the keyboard. you remove the batteries by unscrewing a round metal battery cover. Do not lose it because Apple doesn't make just the replacement battery covers. I...uh...kinda learned that the hard way. It is a good keyboard though. I think my all-time favorite one though, is the Amazon Basics Bluetooth Keyboard. It's on sale right now for $25.99 The keys are full-sized like a regular computer keyboard, and paring it is quite easy. Applevis has a podcast about it so if you want to hear a demo of it it's available. Anyways, thought I'd chime in there with that!
This app does take some getting used to. Canned goods are especially difficult. Trick is to tap on the scan button, listen for the low tone beep then hold your iPhone's camera about six inches above the product you wish to scan. slowly turn the can and maybe slowly move the phone camera up and down until you hear another low tone. Then a couple of seconds later Voiceover should announce what the product is. You might want to try either Tap Tap See or Talking Goggles. The latter is free but may not be quite as accurate. These apps read text or recognise pictures rather than scan barcodes so you've got more of a chance of the camera finding something it can understand.
hi, Thank you for geting back to me, it was very much appreciated. I can't make my mind up between talking goggles and TAP TAP see. Do you pay a monthly subscription for TAP TAP SEE or can you get a yearly one? Does anyone use talking goggles, if so what is your opinion about it? Thanks once again for your advice.
hi, Thank you so much for the information on the bluetooth keyboard, it iseems to be exactly what i am looking for.
hi, Thank you so much for the tip on reading webpages. Much appreciated.
There's no annual subscription for Tap Tap See. There's a monthly one which entitles you to unlimited uses or there's a 100 picture package which isn't time limited. I went for the latter option. Typically what I do is try Talking Goggles first and if it can't help me then I go to TAp Tap See and use up one of my credits.
