Hi all.
So obviously you can do screen recording, and you can use the microphone. When recording in Garage Band, no screen recording, if I touch the screen to slide around and get to a button or whatever, I get just a bunch of noise from it.
Is there some secret to not getting this, other than an external microphone, or running the iPhone into an audio interface and recording your voice on a separate track ,essentially using your computer's microphone as an external microphone?
In other words, if you're using screen recording to both record whatever app you're demoing with Voiceover, and you also have it using the microphone to record your talking, from what I can tell it will get a bunch of noise if you start touching the screen. That's what I'm trying to have not happen.

Get earbuds are some sort of external microphone. Since the microphone is in the device itself, it can't help but pick up any vibrations that result from touching the screen.
Re: Microphone.
That's what I thought, thanks! I figured I'd ask just in case, because I've heard some people doing it without that, but not any real explanation of what they were doing. Now I have to figure out if Airpods Pro 2nd Gen. will be OK for recording, or if I want something better, in which case, I'll wait because I'm planning on upgrading phones, at some point, the gods know when though. So I don't see much point in buying another lightning accessory, in case I end up with something with a USB C port.
Hard no on the AirPods, taskam interface recommended
God no! Please don’t use the AirPods, they’re terrible. I’m not sure how they’ll be in the upcoming iOS 26, but for now at least, please stay away from them. Since you have an iPhone XR, lightning earbuds will do the job just fine, better than fine honestly, the microphones on those things are amazing for what they are.
Okay, I just re-read your comment and discovered that you don't want to get a pair of EarPods. You can get something like a Tascam interface. I'm not sure which one, but it's $45 and it comes with a standard 1⁄8-inch jack. You should already have an 1⁄8-inch to lightning adapter. If not, I think you're out of luck.
Turn off Microphone
If I remember correctly, open control center. Double-tap and hold on Screen Recording. Make sure that VoiceOver says microphone off. If it does not say that, double-tap until you hear off.
Use a Mixer
For best results, connect your iPhone and microphone to an audio mixer through separate inputs, then record the resulting mix with your computer (or an external recorder if you prefer).
Re: Mixer.
Yep. I covered this, though not clearly, in my original post. I have an Audient Evo 16, and I do have a lightning to 3.5 adapter. So that will be pretty simple.
I was just curious if there was a way to do it all from the phone, because I'm PA Dutch and we're stubborn. Plus, I'm just kind of interested in what all you can do. At some point when I upgrade phones I might get an external microphone and try it. But like I said, there's no real point now, because if I upgrade past lightning, I'll just have some useless hardware laying around. So I may as well wait until I upgrade.
