Screen curtain will not turn off

By Helaine B, 19 October, 2017

iOS and iPadOS

Hello, Sometimes screen curtain will not turn off on my iphone 6. The three finger tap will not work and neither will turning the phone on and off. This seems to happen at night and then works again in the morning. I tried to look for some setting that might explain this, but couldn't find anything. Any help is apreciated. Thanks.

When you say turning the phone on and off, do you mean locking and unlocking, or did you shut down and reboot it?

I both tried to reset the phone by holding down the home button and power button at the same time and then just turned it on and off. Neither worked. This was last night, and then in the morning it was working again.

forced restart

For your reboot, did you try the new forced reboot method? The new method is to press the volume up button quickly and release it, then press the volume down button and release it, then hold down the screen lock button for around eight seconds. I think that is an iOS11 change.

I'm not using IOS 11 yet.

If you use Zoom, there are many bugs with the three button gestures. Try turning off Zoom and then using the gesture.

Can you tell us a bit more? What I think would help us is the following:

1. Are you using VoiceOver only? Is this being used with like the Zoom (As mentioned above)? If so, there is a different gesture to do that.

2. When you perform the three fingers triple tap. Does VoiceOver announce that the screen curtain is being turned off or on? If so, have you tried to make sure that the brightness is set up high enough when VoiceOver screen curtain is off? If not, have your tried to tilt your screen a bit so that you can spread out your fingers a bit more from each finger so that the screen can recognize in what gestures you are trying to attempt. Having the fingers to close together may not register correctly.

Hope one of these suggestion will work for you.
