Question about creating ringtones

Hi all,
First of all, My name is Leslie. I have been a user of apple products for a number of years from the iPod nano to the iPod touch and so on. I recently got an iPhone XR. I have one quick question. I have a few .wav sound files that are less than 30 seconds in length that I want to make into ringtones. Is there a way to convert wav files to m4r files? I've been doing google searches, but I've mostly seen websites that show links to converters. Does anyone know of a good wav to m4r converter or another way to convert the files? Thanks in advance for any help. I've been visiting this site for a few years and I really get a lot from it. Have a good day,
Leslie

I use GoldWave to convert tracks. You can save the files as m4a and rename them to have the m4r extension and send them to your iPhone.

The advantage of GoldWave is that if you have a number of files to convert you can batch convert them.

In iTunes I converted the ring tone files to AAC format. Once in the AAC format you find them in the directory and rename the files to m4r this way the iPhone recognizes them as ring tone files. I'm sure there are various methods to accomplish this as the previous post suggests a similar method to achieve the same result.

You can also use Audacity

Audacity is a free audio editing program that works on the Mac and PC. You can import the WAV file, convert it to MRA, and rename it to M4R and you are ready to go.

Are you using a computer or just your iPhone? If you're using a computer the above suggestions are good ones (I used to use iTunes to make ring tones). If you're just using your iPhone though, I think you might be able to use Garage Band, but I haven't tried it.
