The subject field says it all. I am able to remove the widgits from the home screen, but if I reset my home screen, all of the widgits come back. How can I permanently get rid of them? Thanks in advance for your help.

Don’t reset

Widgets are always there regardless of deleting/removing, every time you reset your home screen, the layout returns to the factory default, which will show Apple apps on the first page and the next page will show some Apple apps and sort all third-party apps from A-to-Z order, and all folders are deleted and it will be sorted from A-to-Z order from top to bottom to the end of the home screen and you can have up to 15 pages, if you reach the 15 page limit, all newly downloaded apps will show up on the first page.
You may try going to the main page of the home screen and swipe right with three fingers until you hear that it says showing today view, double tap the edit button and use the Rotor to remove all widgets, that may help.
