Modifier keys sticking on bluetooth keyboards

iOS and iPadOS

I’m trying to revisit the possibility of writing on my iphone and ipad, but issuing voiceover commands frequently results in the command or capslock keys acting as if they are locked down. They are not physically down, but for example hitting the letter h will go home instead of entering the letter. I’ve tried two different keyboards and both my new iphone SE and 5th gen ipad mini. Is this an IOS 13 issue? I’ve tried every workaround I can think of, such as turning off key repeats and slowing key responses down.

Thank you for explaining your experience with Bluetooth keyboards. I kept wondering if it was only my keyboard. I haven't had the command key virtually stick, but the capslock does all the time. I have determined that VoiceOver doesn't know the difference between the capslock and the shift key being active. I frequently use keyboard help VO-K to check to see whether capslock is on or off. If it says capital letters when I press letter keys then I know to press capslock to switch it off. When capslock is on all commands search backwards because it's just lick you're holding down shift. It is annoying. Now I know we should complain to Apple about it. I have a logitech K760 solar keyboard and it behaves similarly with iPhone 8 and iPad Mini 4. Do you also notice that at times commands that require several keys be pressed at once just don't work for a few seconds and then they go back to working? I used to think it might be a connection problem or low battery, but I'm not sure it is anymore. I thought it was only VoiceOver commands, but the same thing occasionally happens to command shift A for mute and unmute in Zoom on the iPad.

Hi, Some time back I also started writing on my IPHONE. I recollect having a similar issue. What worked for me, ofcourse after lot of trial and error was using modifier key and ;

Using the combination of modifier key and ; will toggle modifier key lock on and off. For me somehow the lock was toggled on and once I turned it off everything started functioning smoothly.

This is a toggle. Somehow the modifier key was locked for me also. Once I used the combination of modifier key and ;, the modifier key lock was disabled and everything started functioning smoothly again.
