locked out of iPod touch fifth generation please help.

I gave my old iPod touch fifth-generation to a friend a while back. either her or one of her sons got locked out of the device because they entered the wrong password and we are trying to get it back up and running again. The message on the screen says iPod disabled connect to iTunes. The problem is that my MacBook Pro is now running Catalina and I don't think it will recognize the iPod touch fifth-generation because the iPod is too old. it's a 128 gig unit and my friend wants to use it so I hope that we can get it running again. Please help. my friend tried restoring it on her computer and she had no luck.

Did your friend try connecting the iPod to her computer and entering recovery mode by holding down the power and home button together and then the home button alone? That should allow iTunes to access the device in order to restore it to factory settings.

thanks for the response. Will that work with Catalina on the Mac? If it will, that will be the next thing we try. I don't know if she put it into recovery mode when she tried to restore it or not. The next time I go to her house I plan on bringing my Mac and trying to restore it if I can get Catalina to recognize it.

I don't know for sure, but as iTunes recognizes many older devices, and much of the same syncing functionality was ported to Catalina, I'd imagine that it would work.
