KNFB Field View crashing almost constantly

iOS and iPadOS

I just bought the KNFB Reader a couple of days ago. I would be in love with it, even using it on my pitiful iPod Touch 5g it gives very good results. If not for the fact that when I use the Field of View report it crashes the app about 75 percent of the time, I'd be on OCR cloud nine right now. I'm totally blind, and that feature is a requirement for me.

I first blamed myself and/or my poor little iPod Touch 5G, but ti does the same on an iPhone 5C, and on an iPad Mini 2.

Apparently, this is a known bug to the developers, and they say they are working on a fix for it.

Since this crash is making the app almost unusable for me, do you all think I should try and get a refund right now or hold out for a little bit longer to see if they squash this nasty field bug? When it works, the results are terrific! But the constant crashing is really getting on my nerves.

I'm running an iPhone 5 and have also experienced this bug in the previous few days. I agree it's frustrating but as you say it's a known bug so hopefully it'll be sorted asap. Having had the app since launch day I can reassure you that it is definitely worth sticking it out as you will be on ocr cloud 9 once it's sorted. Its by far the best ocr app in my opinion and I've tried quite a few. In the meantime, I know it's not ideal but bypass the recognition shot and go straight for the take picture button. HTH

I think you should try to get your money back before it too late. Remember this is $100 app and it's crashed so many times already.

I say stick it out and wait. These guys from what I know of them anyway, are really good about fixing stuff when needed.

If the OCR, when I can get it lined up properly, wasn't so good, I wouldn't even be considering keeping this app.

Frankly, I'm quite surprised that they released something that cost this much, over $100, with, in my opinion, such a serious bug in its core functionality. Yes, I can take a quick pic and it doesn't crash, but I can also do that very same thing with any old much cheaper OCR app and without the field report the results are mostly very similar.

I will give them a little while longer to fix this, but if it isn't fixed, soon, I will definitely be hounding Apple for a refund of my $105.

Thank you all very much for your opinions.

The app crash most of the time for me since the version 2.0. I managed to overcome it by reinstalling. However, with the latest version the problem is back with full force. No matter if I uninstall and reinstall again, or restarting the phone, it still crash for me especially in stand mode. It will detect movements and beeps a few time and tell me text found after that either do nothing or being kicked out. The worst is KNFB are not even responding to me on twitter or email either the previous version or this version. That, to me, is quite irrisponsible part of the developer.

I did at least get an email from KNFB, on Sept 4, just a few hours after I wrote to them. But all it said was that it was a known bug, and they hoped to have a fix out next week...which is now this week since I got the email last Thursday.

If the fix isn't out by Saturday night, Sept 12, I will definitely request a refund, though I imagine I'm already way too late to get one.

I am hoping very much for a fix. However, As a first time KNFB customer, I do find this major crash very disturbing, you know, first impressions and all that.

give them a bit more time than that. remember apple has to approve any app updates, and that process can take a couple of weeks some times.
