iPhone5s a question of curiosity

By techluver, 22 September, 2014

I have a question. Is there a way to turn off the need to enter your passcode on restart if you have touch ID enabled? When I have to restart my phone i am always asked to physically enter the passcode the first time. Why do they do it? That's annoying.

Hello Techluver,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to turn off the requirement to enter your passcode upon first restarting your device, even if Touch ID is enabled.

do you know why?

Do you know why they have it in place? Do you know if they'll be adding that functionality in the future?

Likely a Security Measure

Hello Techluver,

My guess is that it is likely a security measure for whatever reason. As it's almost certainly a feature to improve the device's security, I don't forsee Apple changing this behavior.

apple doesn't give enough choices

Yeah. thanks.
Now I must say. Apple is a wonderful company and such. But i do find they don't give you enough choices on how security is handled. They think that "their method is best".

Best practices

Sorry. Apple is not enforcing their own workflow on their users. In fact, any biometric enabled device requires a secondary password. Because IPhone 5s was the first biometric enabled Idevice, there certainly room for improvement. I don't think this is a problem with IPhone 6. After restarting my phone, I never had to enter my password on restart. Therefore, if you want hardware improvements, you must go for IPhone 6.

i'm thinking of doing that

I heard Touch ID is improved on the 6 and 6 Plus, so maybe this is what they meant? I'm also planning to get a 6 Plus, and I'm currently selling my iPhone 5S.

security reasons?

I'm asuming they did it that way incase the touch ID doesn't work.

It's always good to have some sort of backup, emagine going to unlock your phone, only to not get the touch ID working.

What happens then? you're stuck.

That would be frustrating.
