iPhone mail app always opens to the trash folder

for some reason lately when I open the mail app on my iPhone SE 2020 with IOS 15.1, the mail app always opens in the trash folder and I have to hit the back button a few times to select the inbox. Is there any way I can correct this behavior? I wonder what I did to make the mail app start opening in the trash folder by default?

RE: iPhone mail app always opens to the trash folder

I looked through the Mail settings on my iPhone SE 2020 edition. I have a Gmail and iCloud account associated. None of the settings for either account gave me an option to have the naitive Mail app open in a specific location. You have probably already tried this, but if not, I suggest closing out the mail app from the App Switcher and then reboot your phone.

I hope this helps.

iPhone mail app opening into trash folder

I called apple accessibility and got it fixed. I had to force reboot the phone with volume up volume down hold in power button, and then completely remove and reinstall the mail app, go into settings and reactivate the accounts, then drag the mail app back down onto the dock where it was previously.
