iOS10: automatically switch to speaker when in call?

Hello,
In iOS10 I found a new toggle under voiceover under audio called automatically switch to speaker when in call. I wonder when this feature is turned off if this will allow you to switch to speaker manually? I know some of you were wanting that feature so that's why I'm posting about it.

When this is turned off, phone calls don't switch to speaker automatically when you move the phone away from your ear. I never really liked automatic mode anyway

It works even when facetiming someone

It works even when one makes FaceTime calls and I was quite surprised at first. But there is one problem to select options or dial extention numbers I can't do that when this is turned off. Any ideas?
