Introducing SwiRadio; A Non-Visual Radio App

By Joy Cheng, 22 January, 2016

iOS and iPadOS

Hi folks,

Wow, Voiceover support for SwiRadio isn’t as smooth as we’d expected.
We need time to roll out an app specifically designed for Voiceover users, SwiRadio Voice (free)
Some sleek features may be missing, but I believe it will make Voiceover fit better.

Here’s a video to get the gist of SwiRadio:

I’m an app developer stumbled upon this website.
After reading through the forum, as a member working in a tech startup specializing in gesture-driven apps, I figured our app would come in handy.

SwiRadio is an iOS radio app with no button to be pressed, which is extraordinarily useful for users with visual impairments.
It lets you swipe in any area to explore music stations effortlessly. Tune in with one finger and get similar stations instantly. SwiRadio aggregates about a thousand music stations into a gesture driven music-only interface.
You can swipe left-right to fine-tune the tempo you want and up-down to search for radio stations of new release, oldies or something in between.

It’s available on iTunes at $1.99 (full price $5.99) until February 3.
Here’s a promo code if anyone wants to try it out.
Promo code: 6TTYANJPMJLE
Any feedback and suggestion are welcome, and since we’re developing one for voiceover, suggestions in regard to voiceover are highly appreciated.
We’re planning to develop music apps for blind iOS users in the near future, and it will be free with ad.
If you have any questions need to talk with developers, please feel free to contact me at swibeat@gmail.com or skype: swibeat@gmail.com anytime.

Cheers,

Thanks for notifying us about this app. My question for you is have you tried this app using Voiceover? It sounds like it would be a very fun and innovative app, so I was just curious if you yourself have tried it with Voiceover. Good luck, and I look forward to checking this out.

Hi @sockhopsinger,
Thanks for your question, it helps us discover, oops…something we didn’t see it coming. The interactive interface isn’t working with voiceover the way we’d expected. Hang on! We’ll develop another SwiRadio app specifically for voiceover users and roll it out as soon as possible.
Thank you again for your reply :)

Hi @JDawg,
My mistake. Voiceover support for SwiRadio doesn’t run as smoothly as we’d expected, so we decided to develop an app specifically designed for Voiceover users, SwiRadio Voice. But here’s the good news, no promo code is needed cause it’d be a free app, and the bad news is, on the other hand…it might take us some time to make it available on App Store. I’ll keep you updated, and hope you’ll enjoy it when it’s out.

Hi @Maria Reyes,
Thanks for your encouragement. Hang on there! we’ll develop the voiceover supported app as soon as possible. We’re and will always be after app that makes things easy, quick and done for people. Just give us time to make it happen ;)

wouldn't it just be easier to try and fix the voice over support in your current app, rather than make a totally new app just for VO users? Just a thought.

Hello Joy:

I am very interest in this portion of the new app. Did I understand this correctly? If I am listening to a song and want the tempo to go faster, for example, to match my running pace, is this what the feature will do? Very excited if it does.

Would it be possible to preselect a tempo and then have all songs on a particular station match that tempo? This would be very useful for walkers, joggers, and runners alike. I know that Spotify does something similar.

I can't wait for the VoiceOver version of the app to be perfected.

Very Accessible App.

Hi Joy, I bought the SwiRadio app last week it is very accessible with VoiceOver. I don't think you need to develop an other SwiRadio app just for VoiceOver that's just me.

Hi,
I agree with another post above, it'd be best to support this current one with VoiceOver rather than make a SwiRadio Voice.

If the music isn’t fast enough, you can swipe rightward.
There are music stations playing music with faster beats. It might fit your running pace.
As for pre-selecting a tempo and have all the songs match the tempo, well, we need time to look into that.

Look up Direct Touch. With a few lines of code you can have a panel you want for gestures not to be interfered with by voiceover. Any parts of the screen not in the panel will be read by voiceover in the usual way.
