Hello, this is carlos, I’ve been having problems with the McDonald’s app. Specifically trying to order chicken McNuggets, when I go into the chicken menu and hit the McNuggets I want, it pops up with a screen that says what type of sauce, but when I try to select it, it puts me into the top bar of the iPhone where it says the time and the Wi-Fi, etc. I have to close the app and open it again Once in a while it will let me swipe up over the to the top or swipe up with three finger fingers to the end so I can hit no sauce, which is what I want, but a lot of times they won’t even let me order the chicken McNuggets. It also does it on other chicken products when you have to select sauces, Has anyone experienced this? I’ve sent messages to McDonald’s accessibility. And they just sent me a generic reply. And it hasn’t been fixed, if anyone has any work rounds or has problems with the McDonald’s app or other problems with the McDonald’s app, which I’ve had a few others sometimes too, but this is the big one. Please let me know thank you. Have a wonderful day carlos

use a food delivery app like doordash or uber eats
You'll have better luck with that. I just use Uber Eats and I can get my nuggets no problem and just like you I get them with no sauce. But on an unrelated note I really hope they bring the spicy mcNuggets to the menu permanently. They're far superior to the normal nuggets.
Reasons For Using The McDonalds App
I do agree that using the delivery apps is a better experience, but there are valid reasons for using the McDonald’s app. One reason is that you can get rewards points, and if you collect enough, you can get free items, or even a whole meal. At least that's how it is in Canada. As far as the original post is concerned, I can select the number of sauces or types of sauces I want by using screen recognition. McDonald’s does need to fix this. I've reported it several times, and still nothing changes. Oh well, we just need to keep after them about it.
Need to reach out to McDonald’s
There’s not really much anyone can do. There’s no way to resolve this here. It’s a bug. It’s an in accessibility issue. You need to either email or call McDonald’s corporate. They might even have an accessibility department that you can specifically interact with. And you have to be very very aggressive. By that, I mean, email or call them more than once. It will not get fixed, unless you are constantly engaging.
The importance of letting them know there is a problem
It is important to let app developers know what problems users are having with their app. This can be a frustrating process and lead to nowhere, but it can also be successful. The FedEx app was unusable as a blind person after calling FedEx several times I finally had a friend write them a letter and sent it to their corporate office. I was called by FedEx and asked to be part of a conference call with the accessibility team and now I can say the FedEx app is much more blind friendly.
tried this
After seeing this thread I tried ordering nuggets like the op, but I'm wondering if this is specifically an accessibility issue, given how they tout their kiosk accessibility with JAWS.
When I tried it, I could flick through most of the sauce options, but when I got to the last few, the app became totally unresponsive and my phone started to heat up. This tells me it's using unnecessary processes. I've seen other restaurant apps do this along with content heavy interactive websites in Safari. I will try to at least let them know I'm seeing this. I use the app when I go there from time to time.
I think it's also important to let companies know when their app works well. I order on the Subway app all the time since there's one I can walk to from my apartment and I've become good friends with the owner of it. I let her know that the app works well with VO and how that makes me feel, and she said she would let the people she knows in corporate know that. I walked in one morning and they were having at least a local corporate meeting there. I over heard her tell the management there about the impact of the app's accessibility. Unfortunately though, I did not get to demo it for them. That would've been cool.
