Can someone far more learned than myself please explain why one would want to have both the FourSquare app and the Swarm app? What is the difference in the two? Thanks for any help.

Hi. I used to check in with foursquare but I think they pushed all that to Swarm. Personally swarm is fater anyway. actually I think you need to sign up with fsq first.

But what is the difference?

Four square is primarily used to find areas nearby such as coffee shops, restaurants, retailers etc. Swarm just allows you to check into them.

So you can't find places on Swarm, just check into them? That sounds needlessly complicated. Why on earth would you want to split the process up like that?

I have heard that FourSquare has gotten a lot of static over this one.

You need a foursquare account anyway, if you have the device space, get both apps and tryt hem. Becuase you can use the ckeck in feautre of swarm, you can search locations but i think foursquare might be needed, too. It's not like it wil slow down your device to have both for five minutes lol.

you can find places to check into on swarm. the difference is that foursquare is just meant to find places you don't know about if you are knew to the area. I believe you can search by categories IE coffee shop, italian restaurants, chinese, etc. Swarm is only used to check into venues. It won't provide much more information than that. I believe they don't even have reviews either.
