Low Quality Voices

By Ishkabibble

Hello,

When downloading voices, I tend to download the enhanced versions; I have an ample amount of storage space on both my iPhone and iPad. I even tend to refrain from using any voice other than Alex on my iOS devices, as to me, Alex just sounds superior (creepy breathing noises aside.) but if I absolutely had to choose one low-quality voice I’d prefer the most, it would be Samantha compact. Because I’ve used JAWS with the enhanced vocalizer voices, I’m not used to hearing the compact voices in any other variant than Enhanced. But IMO, Samantha enhanced constantly sounds annoyed/angry (which is annoying to me), and the inflection in the enhanced voice is too pronounced and exaggerated. Though the compact voice is slightly staticky, at least it doesn’t have such an attitude :)

Sincerely,
Maddy

There is enough memory in my phone or, storage, I should say. Therefore, I only use enhanced voices. They sound much better all the way.
Cheers

Samantha Compact Voice For Me

By Roxann Pollard

Eversince starting to use the iPhone, I have used the Samantha compact voice. Each time something new is added to choose from, I give the voices an honest try. Either they are angry sounding, as one person stated, or the inflection is seemingly always on the wrong syllable, or I simply can't stand the voice, i.e., Fred. I am also a heavy Kindle book reader. My normal use speed is around 85%, while Kindle is comfortable at 70%. The enhanced Samantha voice is so choppy at the 85%, it's just not useable. I had high hopes in using the Male SIRI voice, but that one failed miserably, at least when it comes to being the systems Voiceover choice. Now for just SIRI useage, I really like the male SIRI voice. I can't figure out why it just fails when you try to use it as the system Voiceover voice. At the end of the day, it's Samantha compact for regular use and male SIRI for SIRI use.

Like another person said, I prefer Alix for every day use. However, my favorite vocaliser voices is Ava. I use the voices depending on what I'm doing. If I'm reading a story from fan fiction, i will use Alix. If I'm just checking my email or having a conversation with a friend, I will use ava`.

I'll go with the unpopular one here and go with English Australian Karen. For some reason its my favorite voice. I prefer the compact voices over the enhanced voices. I previously used the Siri male voice, but it changed too much in IOS 12 and I don't like the way it pronounces words anymore.

I use Alex as my VoiceOver voice. If I had to choose one low-quality voice to use instead of Alex, it'd be Martha (British Siri female).

I must be the odd one here,

I must be the odd one here, because I like Fred, at least on a small speaker like the iPhone.

If I had a mac, which I don't, it would probably be Ava.
