can't get universal clipboard to work all the time

By KE7ZUM, 14 November, 2016

iOS and iPadOS

I decided to put this here as this also has to do with iOs.

I copy text from my mac and sometimes I can get the universal clipboard to work but other times I cannot. My phone and computer are on the same iCloud account so this in there should work. Is there a trick to getting this to work or is it is kind of thing I'm doing wrong?

It may be buggy

I think the feature is a little buggy. If you've got all the system requirements for handoff, it should be working. The fact that it's not means it's probably a software bug. I have also had this behavior. You may want to use Something like Mac ID to push text back and forth. If only Apple quit releasing software every single year and took time to actually refine the software

I use sync text which I hate.

Question about handoff, since someone brought it up

By Siobhan

Hi all. i'll ask this, as I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. I've never really understood handoff. I get it's concept to be sure, for example I have safari on the Mac, as I write this. the phone is right beside me, same iCloud account and wifi network for both. In theory, shouldn't I be able to push the lock button, see "safari", in the lock screen and tap it to continue this message? Any help would be great. If I'm not getting this right, Irish were never known to catch on quick. :p

Try turning on

Try turning on BlueTooth on both your Mac and iPhone. This way hand off works when BlueTooth and WiFi are both enabled. Hope this helps and good luck!

Handoff

For all of these handoff features to work, you need Apple hardware manufactured in 2012 or later. That includes 2012 Macs, and iOS devices manufactured with lightning ports. Basically, if you've got an iPhone 5 or later and a 2012 Mac or later, you're all set. You also need both Bluetooth and wi-fi enabled on both devices. Handoff authenticates via Bluetooth and sends data through a direct wi-fi connnection. This is why you don't necessarily have to be on the same network. The devices create an ad-hoc network with each other.

timeout?

Universal clipboard has I think a 1 or 2 minute timeout for security. So if you don't paste it quick enough, it won't stay in your clipboard. Also, I've seen it fail if one of the devices is locked.
