Hi all!
After switching from Android, I try to find a replacement for various applications that I used on the previous phone. It was extremely convenient to use SM Music Reader to tune the guitar there. However, with tuners for iOS, everything turned out to be somewhat more complicated.
I do not want to start the discussion on the topic of tuning the guitar by ear, for someone, maybe it is convenient, personally to me-categorically not.
The last time I used iOS (2021), trying dozens of applications, I managed to find a relatively accessible tuner in the AppStore, however, it apparently prevented the moderators from Apple, since this application is currently removed from the AppStore. Ok, apparently, the AppStore has a place only for inaccessible tuners.
Having continued trying many applications one by one, I came across Guitar Tuner+, which, albeit with some reservations, can be used with VoiceOver. Also, as far as I know, there is a Talking Tuner, but it is not updated for a long time and, according to reviews, has problems on the latest IOS versions.
I would like to know what you are using for tuning the guitar? Perhaps there are any other applications that I do not know about.
Comments
Ignoring Your Ears
You say you don't want comments on tuning by ear. Fine. But do you use your ears at all when playing? If not, how do you know you are playing the right notes or chords?
The same qualities you listen for when playing along to something, to determine if you are playing the right pitches or not, is exactly the same quality you would use to match the pitches of your open strings to an accurate reference. Relative pitch is a 100% learnable skill.
Acoustic Tuner
Acoustic Tuner is the app that I use, which uses the standard way or can pick up sounds from your guitar and guide you to increase or lower the pitch.
Here's an Option that is Not an App

Talking Tuner.
Well mostly I tune by ear. But Talking Tuner is working just fine for me on the latest iOS. It works better if you toggle Voiceover off while using it. I mostly use it for other things than guitar, it's hard to find reference tones for a guitar zither with at least forty strings. I should really find a good reference tone generator for the phone though.
Roadie
Have you used this? Kind of thinking about getting this. How is the app with VO?
Roadie Tuner.
I use the above menchened device with my guitars all the time the app is very accessible, and the process is so very staight forward with in under thirty seconds you can have your guitar perfectly tuned.
Are you able to navigate all…
Are you able to navigate all the functions in app as you are in roadie itself? I looked at the manual and it mentioned onboard navigating for some functions. What really intrigued me was the string winder in it. If someone can send a demonstration on how onboard navigation works that'll be great. I know you said it's straight forward but I wanna know what I'm getting into before buying this. If everything can be used from the app itself then that's cool too. Also does it work off of vibration or do you have to have sound coming out of something. Sorry for asking too much. I have perfect pitch but sometimes I'm in a quick situation where don't have that much but 10 to 20 seconds to tune. And we're talking pedal steels here not just a regular guitar Lol. I also love how you can create your own custom tunings too.
Navigating Roadie tuner
Because the menus within the Roadie 3 do not wrap, it is easy to power on the device, and count to quickly navigate to the different options. For example, If I turn it on and right arrow two times, I know I am on the first string for my Taylor Guitar. Subsequently, if I turn it on, right arrow once and down arrow once more I am on my telecaster. Pressing right arrow then will put me on the first string for this guitar. The tuner tunes by vibration, so sound does not need to be coming out. I can usually tune my electric live in under 25 seconds. The string winder works find both to unwind, and restring an instrument.
