Hey peeps,
I'm looking for a clean and flexible email app for ios. The default Apple email client has many shortcomings, so here's what I'm looking for:
1. Database compacting and local-only message purging.
The builtin mail app size is growing and growing, and growing still more. There's no meaningful way to delete data and have only the most recent messages in local storage. A good client allows local message purging whilst keeping server side stuff untouched. You have to delete the accounts or entire mail app and start again, then never look at old messages because Mail will download any folder you browse to in a given mail account. EG: You open the Receipts mailbox to check something and it fetches a billion messages that have nothing to do with the one you're interested in. Thus, do this enough times and your app gets massive.
2. Clean accessible UI. Goes without saying.
3. Sound notify per account. I have several mail accounts. I want to know which to check. All Inboxes is cool but I tend to keep my inbox full of recent messages I've already read and deal with them throughout the week/day, and archive or delete as required.
4. Export. A way to archive mailboxes and configurations for accounts would be beast mode. I understand this isn't as useful for things like Gmail where every device must be authenticated through Google, they do their billion verifications and you're eventually allowed back in. But stuff like custom mail and more minimal/mail only servers don't care as much. Less time configuring, more time reading mail.
i've tried Sparkmail but that was a few years ago and it was akin to touching the screen with the phone off. No use whatsoever. :)
Any suggestions welcome. I'm not looking for self-voicing, AI-enhanced, anything like that. Just no nonsense mail with advanced options.
thanks!

Hi,
Outlook for iOS, might, be what you're looking for. It has its own sound tones for various events, allows for local folders.
It also has a much better way of emptying the trash and junk folders, much better than the default iOS mail app.
Fair warning, Outlook for iOS is a robust app. It comes with its own fully functional calendar, and other features that may or may not be of interest to you.
HTH. 😀
