Seeking feedback and suggestions for the Blindfold series of iOS games

By KidFriendlySoftware, 13 November, 2015

Forum
iOS and iPadOS Gaming

Tennis is on my list of games. Would people want the game to use arm movements like the Wii, or use your finger on the screen?

Also, are there any other games or suggestions that you have for the Blindfold series of iOS games?

Blindfold Oppoly suggestion

By MonkeyGamingFSB

In Blindfold Oppoly, would it be possible to make the computer opponents trade properties with each other??

birds

In reply to Angry Birds? by JeffB

The problem with that game is that you really need to see the screen to see structure of the building you must smash, and where the weak structural components are. I am thinking about space invaders or pac man though.

Building trouble

By JeffB

5 years 11 months ago

That could be fixed, all you would need would be different sounds for each building or even have voice over say what kind of building it was. Maybe for 1 structure you would have to shoot to the left instead of aiming for a particular part of the building. I really think that this could be done if modified a little. Also space invaders would be cool pac man has been done for the PC.

Flappy Bird

By Princess Thea

5 years 11 months ago

I've never played Flappy Bird. I just wonder if, in the real version of the game, are there any actual flapping sounds? I love the flappin's.
Just ask my cat; I love the flapping of his thin ears on my hands.
I'm still into Color Crush. I like the things categorized into different subjects, like flowers, color names, candies and the like.
I've also downloaded the birdsong packs and musical instrument packs. I love the different gempacks you've come out with.
I hope to see a fairyland gempack soon: one with fairies, elves, sprites, leprechauns, pixies, and genies or djinn, and all those little magical people we grew up with.
I just really like playing with matching things.
Any chance pearls could be added to a gempack some day? I really like the sound of jewel names, and the bright ting-ting sounds when gems clear the board.
Also, does anyone know of an accessible gamewhere one might win real money?
I sure would like to try my hand at that. Plus, I've always wanted to play trouble. Remember that game? In the 1970's, when I was little and blind, the sighted kids would gather around the board on the floor, and press the round, plastic bubble thing that made a popping noise and told you how many places to move your piece.
I think the blindfold games could keep me occupied for a lifetime. I don't think I'll have to download anyone else's games.

The blindfold basketball bug

By DMNagel

5 years 11 months ago

I am wondering if you are still planning on fixing the bug where the game does not mention players behind you? I know that in real life, players do not move backwards. However, in our version of Blindfold Basketball, moving backwards is not uncommon, especially when you play coach games with players on the court. Sometimes you end up standing near the basket, when the coach tells you to make a shot from the back line. This means that you will eventually need to go backwards in order to reach the back line, while at the same time make sure not to bump into players. Just thought I'd mention it again, in case you forgot about it.

A few comments

Space Invaders and Pac-man would be truly awesome! While it is true that there is an accessible version of Pac-man for Windows (I used to play it when I owned a Windows machine), there is no accessible pac-man game for IOS. Regarding Angry Birds, I honestly think the interest would not be there for the game now as you don't hear of any sighted people playing this any more. 6 years ago I would have loved to have been able to play an accessible version of this game. From what sighted people have told me, the game wasn't the big deal everybody was making it out to be anyway. Just my thoughts.

I Disagree!

By JeffB

5 years 11 months ago

First when have audio games ever followed sighted gaming trends? If it did we would have a Mario Run game a Pokémon Go game and countless others but we don't. If you want to talk about being relevant Space Invaders was released in 1978, Pac-man was released in 1980, and Angry Birds was released in 2009. I don't know anyone that plays those older games anymore and yet they would both still make good games. I think the same can be said for Angry Birds. Maybe you might not have an interest in playing it but I would and I know some of my blind friends that would as well. Also considering we have tons of space shooters even some on EOS I don't think we would really need a Space Invaders game but I would probably still try it anyway. Audio games have always followed their own trends and never ever based on what is popular today. We still have audio gamers making side-scrollers. That line oh it wasn't as big as everyone said it was is a classic line given to all blind people by sighted people. Oh driving isn't all it's cracked up to be there's traffic. You're lucky you can't see the way people dress is nuts. Well personally I would still like to see if I could. I'd also like to still be able to play older games even if people aren't playing them today because I never had the chance to play them today. I also think that when someone says that game’s too tough I don’t see how I could make it for blind people to play but I am thinking of these games. That we should encourage the developers to think of other ways around those issues. As blind people we have to find other ways around everyday tasks and helping to adapt games so that they work for us is no different. Sure I’d play Pac-man, and try out Space Invaders but why limit our games to those that are easy to make and don’t require the rules to be changed? Marty changed the rules for how Barnyard is played and that was a sighted game and he found a way to make that game playable for the blind. Now it is another great game that we can play so why not do that with Angry Birds?

for the fireworks

By Ornella

5 years 11 months ago

for the fireworks app, you could add a mode to pop different bubbles and another to pop snappers. I don't know if you would have to change the name of the app but it would be nice to have all these things. I used to play bubble island but I got fedup of it because the bubbles aren't realistic. Oh and you could add balloon popping. If the app name has to change it could be blindfold pop or blindfold blast.

Pac-man and Space Invaders

By MonkeyGamingFSB

5 years 11 months ago

I just read a comment on the form about how these games were not really relevant anymore.

However, as I have never had the opportunity to play the old style Space Invaders or Pac-man, I think these games would be fantastic additions to the Blindfold Series.

I did some research on these games and thye sound like they would be both challenging and a lot of fun.

These old style games have earned their place in gaming history and accessible versions for iOS would be brilliant!

Crashes in Blindfold Pinball

By MonkeyGamingFSB

I am trying to play Blindfold Pinball using an iPhone 6S running the latest version of iOS.

The game keeps crashing. Even when I shake the phone, the game seems to be stuck.

Can this be fixed?

Use the settings app to turn on remote logging. Other people told me that it seems to slow things down enough to make everything work ok. The game won't be any slower, but it magically does the trick.

Hello,
the game of my dreams is tennis.
The blindfold Hockey is quite similar, at least as concept, but it is not the same.

Then, but not last, if you will decide in future to translate some games into other languages, I remember my availability for italian.
Best regards.

More puzzles in the future for TV gameshows apps

In the future, will there be more puzzles and questions for the TV game show apps Feud, Spin and Solve and Trivia Match? Hopefully there will be, as these games have so much potential to grow and develop.

Seconded Tennis

By JeffB

5 years 10 months ago

Tennis would be great! Especially if it mimics the Wii game where you swing to hit the ball. Also I understand the idea of making something for sighted people too but if it can only be made for 1 it should be made for the blind. Their are milions of games out there that we can't play. Also with enough time a sighted person could learn how to play a sound only game.

age versus popularity

By charles

5 years 10 months ago

In reply to Pac-man and Space Invaders by MonkeyGamingFSB

I mention this to show that the age of a good game has no bearing whatsoever on the popularity of the game. If blind people have never played a 30 year old game and it is now in an accessible format, that game is a new game to them. Do you automatically reject chess based on how long it has been around? The reason it is still played is that it is one of the best games of strategy between two players. A game that withstands the test of time is worthy of attention. I'm not suggesting that there be a version from Kid Friendly Software, because there are two accessible apps in existence. But don't reject any game based on the age of the game.

sighted people playing games for the blind

By charles

5 years 10 months ago

In reply to Seconded Tennis by JeffB

There have been some fairly good games based strictly on audio. However, sadly, most people who rely on their eyesight demand that they be able to use their eyes to play a game, or they won't even try it. This has been discussed among blind players and developers of games for the blind for years. The sighted people feel very much at a disadvantage when it comes to playing these games. Funny, isn't it, how they do see our point about making games accessible if eyesight cannot be used to play a game and they're on the other side of the window that has been totally been covered with duct tape that cannot be seen through, yet they still won't make their games accessible?

Crazy About Color Crush

By MissThea

5 years 10 months ago

I'm very pleased to see all the gempacks available. I love those bright, dainty little ting-ting sounds when I win, and I've often gotten up to six matches in a row.
One question: In the royals gempack, there are things I'm unfamiliar with, such as shahansha? (sp?) Are some of these titles "king" and "queen" etc. in foreign languages?
I just wonder where you found them.
I like the gem packs. I enjoy matching things together, such as candies, royal titles, cats, flowers, and birdsongs.
Keep up the good work.
It feels like I'm walkng in a fruit market when I'm playing with the fruit gem pack, or like I'm in a pet shop when I'm matching animals. It's a real sensory/mental trip.
My favorite Disney characters were from the Aladdin movie.
I wonder why pearls were not included in the mineral gempack, subcategory precious stones.
If you wanted to add a gem pack, how about magical beings, such as fairy, elf, leprechaun, sprite, genie, etc.?
That, too, would be a sensory rush. Or kinds of fur.
Gosh, the possibilities of categories are endless. Family members (mother, father, sister, brother, cousin, husband wife child), or things like that.
I really love this game.
Hangman would be my 2nd favorite, followed closely by the horse race game. I haven't tried any of the RS games yet.
Can't afford to buy anything right now, but hope to be able to get that sorted out soon.

Bug in Blindfold Roulette

By MonkeyGamingFSB

5 years 10 months ago

I have found what I think is a major bug in Blindfold Roulette.

When I place a bet on red or black the game will in a lot of cases give the wrong information after the wheel spins and lands on a number. I will give an example.

I first swipe to the last column of available bets and then swipe down untill I either hear "red or "black. Just say I thought that the next time the wheel spins, it will land on a red number. I therefore double tap "red and then swipe down with two fingers to spin the wheel. The wheel spins and I might hear something like, "the winner is red 5. I therefore think I have won money, however the game tells me that I have lost.

This is the only bug I have found, but as I bet only on red or black a lot of the time, this bug really affects my enjoyment of the game.

Two small bugs in Blindfold Oppoly

By MonkeyGamingFSB

5 years 8 months ago

Hi

Wondered if anyone who plays Blindfold Oppoly can assist?

There are only two very minor bugs left in Blindfold Oppoly, but they do impact the game slightly in terms of both your cash and your computer opponent's cash.

The bugs are in the following Community Chest Cards and Chance Cards:

"Grand opera opening night, collect £50 from each player for opening night seats."

"You have been elected chairman of the board, pay each player £50.

In each case, the money is not taken from you or given to you either, depending on the circumstances.

I wondered if anyone who comes across these bugs could contact Marty to fix them? I am trying to do this myself, but it is taking a while for the cards to show themselves.

Thanks

Angry Birds

By rachel

In reply to A few comments by David Standen

As regards the popularity of Angry Birds, I think opinions are definitely mixed but from speaking to one sighted friend, his daughter and many of her friends thoroughly enjoy playing Angry Birds. Frankly I can see why: even though I don't have Angry Birds on my own device, I have had a go on my friend's iPad - I can see why his daughter enjoys it so much.

Background music and some general feedback

By rachel

5 years 8 months ago

I thoroughly enjoy many of the games, especially the board games (snakes, clues, opoly) and my niece (aged 3) thoroughly enjoys sound search. What a fantastic way to help young children like her learn while having fun at the same time! And now to my second point regarding background music in games. I really enjoy being able to listen to my own music when playing opoly. Is there any way of making this an option in all games? Thanks for reading, and keep up the fantastic work.

It would require a change to each and every game, which would take some time, and I would need to charge for that, and I'm not convinced most people would pay, even $2. I did it to monopoly because that game can last so long.

I have to agree with the comment about trivial pursuit. As a child our family would have hours of fun playing this classic game - a firm favourite in our family. In view of the fact i love all the quiz games that have been developed so far, trivial pursuit would definitely be a welcome addition in my opinion.

Blindfold Connect suggestion

By MonkeyGamingFSB

5 years 7 months ago

I have introduced Blindfold Connect to a number of visually impaired children whom I am working with at the moment. The response to the game has been fantastic. They love it!

I have been asked buy a number of them to make a suggestion though. Some of the kids I work with are finding the game a little tricky to master. They are struggling to know when the computer has three checkers in a row and is about to win the game. They say that this is because the game has so many different ways to win or loose. I wondered if you could possibly add an option in the settings menu to make the game a little easier? Could you possibly add a setting so that if turned on, the game will give a warning when the computer opponents have three checkers in a row and you are in danger of loosing? The game would not have to tell you exactly where the danger was, it would just be a great help to know that you were in danger of loosing.

Thanks as always for your great work!

Blindfold Connect warning thought

I would not be in favor of this 3-in-a-row warning, as it would detract from the challenge. If you don't pay attention, you lose.

I can add it as a setting, like I do in other games. For beginners, its a good idea. Once you become familiar with it, you shut it off.

Will include zip-pop-bop sound when your opponent is about to win, a setting to control that.
It will also include 2 new games: practice easy game and standard easy game ,both of which do not allow for a diagonal 4-in-a-row to win. Only horizontal and vertical 4 in a row will win the game.

Risk would be a great game to be able to play. It's a world domination game, which everybody loves. It also involves strategy and I think 56 cards, so you can't ever get bored with it. I'm sure blind gamers would be more than happy to pay for an app like that; I know I would.

A suggestion if never mentioned

By Ornella

Blindfold deal or no deal. You have 26 cases with money and you keep 1 for your self to open or sell at the end of the game. You start by opening 6 cases and if you open the cases with the lower amount of money the bank offer will be high and if you open the cases with a large amount of money the offer is low. Even when I watch it on tv its addictive when I try to guess the cases it self. Please consider making this in the future. I will definetly pay for this.
