Godville Discussion

iOS & iPadOS Gaming

Hi everyone,
I am just creating this forum topic as a place to casually discuss Godville. If you play it, at what stage are you? Temple? Ark? Savings for a shop?
Would anyone be interested in doing a ZCast discussing this game? ZCast is great because anyone with an iOS device can be added to one, and every iOS device has a microphone so with this app, that is no longer an excuse.
I'm getting back into Godville just recently because I always used to play it off and on. Now I'm taking more of an active roll, melting gold into bricks whenever I can, arena duels once in a while, and this award for losing this time was three gold bricks--yay, and i just got a new Pet Lightsaber toothed Tiger who my hero decided to name Cuddles, and my hero deems him as having a Frisky personality.
What are your Godville stories? Post them here! Additionally, what are your strategies as a blind player in the Godville arena?
Thanks and let's get this topic trending!

I see this app is about a year or so old, and I occasionally see someone mentioning it in other posts. But, there's very little activity on it overall. Would anyone recommend this app today? Just curious what reactions I'd get to this question, hmm, if any. :)
Thanks much!

The Godville game is still very much active. It is mostly an online game, so client/app updates don't need to happen that much.

Submitted by tunmi13 on Sunday, June 4, 2017

Yes it is still active. I have versed real opponents that call upon their god.
Please also add me to your friends list if you have Godville, use my god name by tapping the invite friends button and type:
. That is, W.. A.. T.. E.. R.. U.. S..
HInt: you can also do a three finger tripple tap to copy it to your clipboard.

When I opened the app, as expected, I found I needed to register, so I made sure that was selected and not the log in since I don't already have an account. Well, for some reason the edit fields are acting really strange when I try and type in my god name and or hero name.
When I'm going to find and double tap the first letter of my name, within a second or two, weather I am flicking across the keyboard, or not touching anything, the edit field is exited and focus is placed on the welcome button. I'm like... what! Why is this happening. The only thing I might try is to dictate my name in, but I rarely use dictate as I'm a very speedy typer and I wanted my name typed in a certain way.
Anyone recognize this problem? I've only seen this happen in the older Alexa app, where edit fields suddenly shift out of focus, and you're dropped into no man's land. I'd appreciate any hints as to how I can get registered, or, how much I'll be inputting info into edit fields through out the game. If this is going to be a recurring problem, I'll just toss Godville. lol Though the game sounds like it could be fun.

Submitted by Orinks on Sunday, June 4, 2017

Hi Mike,

To send commands to your god, there is an edit box for it. Perhaps this is only happening for registering. I registered about six years ago, and didn't have any problems back then.

I got my hero created with a little help from dictate and autocomplete. lol Anyway, just learning how this whole game works, and when I get to figuring things out, I'll add you to my friends list Tunmi.
My hero's name is taken from my Sryth's character, Mystic Stinger. Thanks all for the help so far. :)

After having read your comments about this game, I have decided that I need to give it a try. It sounds very interesting. Thank you all for the feedback. I am going to the App Store to download Godville right now.

Hi all, I have a slightly better understanding on how this interesting game works now. :) I've never played a game where you do so little to influence your character or in this case he or she's called your hero.
I always enjoy finding out about how other game mechanics and or code base or engines work, and how the interface is presented to the player / end user.
I must say I'm a little put off not being able to control my char, or micro manage his inventory or gear. But I'm warming up to it some.
Tunmi, I've tried adding you to my friend's list, but since we can't communicate with other God's till level 12, I suppose it doesn't matter that it doesn't seem to work right now. Though it says friends (5) once I have the friends menu open. I can only assume those are the friends my hero made? lol

Btw, I'm level 8 now.
Thanks again to all who have helped contribute to my understanding of this game. :D

I downloaded this game yesterday and I have been trying to understand what is the purpose of a game that plays itself. Maybe I am missing something, but, the truth is, I don't get what am I supposed to do because, according to what I have been able to see, this game plays by itself.
Does it mean that the only thing I need to do is start the game from time to time just to see what the hero has been doing?
I guess I don't have to do anything else.
Can somebody explain to me how this game works?
Obviously I am missing something here.
Another question I have is, can I read what has been going on or what the hero has been riding on his diary while I have been off-line? Please help. I really want to understand how to play this game.
Thank you in advance.

Since I'm pretty new to this game also, all I can tell is what you've observed so far is true. This game, or this character practically plays on it's own for all intents and purposes.
I log in and check at what level he's at, what quest he's on, and see what he's been posting to the diary. You can see your hero's stats and what not by double tapping the hero's tab. Other then that, I'll place my focus just above the diary as posts get made to it, and basically see what he's up to.
Also on the remote tab, or screen, you can send your hero messages, or incourage him, or punish him for things he's doing you don't like. You How these are actually affecting him, I'm not real sure on just yet. lol
also go to the hero tab to resurrect him if he dies. At level 9 my char just died for the first time.

Anyway, I was hoping the hero was more interactive, but maybe someone can teach us both more about this unusual game. :)
Btw, you can log into the game if you submitted an email address and used the confirmation link once emailed to you. The link is:

A game that plays by itself (ZPG) means you do not have control over your hero, so he or she does whatever they like, unless told by you with the Remote icon to do something, like join a better guild (more about guilds at level 14).
You are only there to tell your hero words of encouragement, or if he or she does something you don't like, punish them.
That is basically how the game works.
The remote is basically where you talk to your hero, encourage it, and punish it, then in later levels, fight your friend or send them to the arena to fight other heroes.
The accumulator charges refill you godpower if you are running low on it. Godpower is required to do actions. Saying things to you hero wastes 5% of godpower, and doing actions like encouraging or punishing wastes 25%.
Some items the hero acquires can be activated with godpower too. Most items need 50% of godpower to activate them. Also, sending your hero to the arena and sparing a friend require 50%.
Once you run out of charges you can wait till you godpower refills, then you can convert it into an accumulaotr charge by accumulating 100% godpower. Otherwise you may buy charges with in-app purchases.

Submitted by MikeFont on Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Hi Tunmi, I've seen the items, but haven't really been able to see what they can do, nor how to activate them. Any tips how to do that? I wonder if there's a way to see what the stats are for the inventory items you have. Or maybe it tells you when you go to activate one of them.
Thanks again for the help.

Tunmi, thank you for the explanation. Now I have a clear understanding on What the game is all about.
Mike, when you touch the bottom of the screen you will find a group of tabs. One of them say (stuff). If you click on that, it will take you to the inventory where you will see what objects your hero has collected so far. When an object is actionable, it will say it on the labeling of the object. For example, I found a pot of honey and it said actionable and next to that, when flicking ones to the right, it will say (activate). When the object activates, several things could happened, or at least, that's what I understand. Either you collect valuable treasures or it will just be a wonderful piece of nothing. LOL.
Now, I have a question:
Can I read what my hero has been doing while I've been off-line?
When I login, I can only read a few things but not everything since I logged off.
Thank you for your answer.
Have a great day/night.

Sadly, your hero's diary only has the last like, maybe ten entrys viewable, until he either completes a quest or aquires an item called the third eye. I believe this is only doable after the temple is built? Hmm, dang I've read the FAQs a time or two, but I'm not sure on that point. lol
I don't expect my temple to be built for quite a while yet.
As far as items, I've been into the stuff tab, but I guess my hero hasn't picked up anything worth wile. perhaps I have to have my hints turned on to hear this actions notifier? Hmm, I'll check it out.
Thanks guys. Heh glad we can help each other out with this. :)
Ps. You can double tap on items sometimes to attempt to craft them with other items you may have in your inventory. In that way, you can produce a completely new item. But I've yet to see this message pop up once for my hero's items. lol

I am playing Godville and I have to say that I have come to like his game very much.
If somebody wants to add me to their friends list, my god's name is:
(Note) the eye and the M are in high caps.
Take care and have a nice day. See you in Godville.

Submitted by MikeFont on Tuesday, June 20, 2017

By all means, my God name is the same one here on apple vis. MikeFont and that is initially capped also. I've tried to add Tunmi's hero but it has a hard time trying to find her god name.
I believe its, waterus? Anyway, I'm having more fun with Godville then I expected to. lol
Enjoy all, see you either in the arena or in my hero's diary. :)

I used to 'play' this game all the time until a year or so ago.

I stopped being able to press any of the buttons. You don't do much to play it, but you do a bit.

I just tried it and still nothing, I don't know how you are playing it or perhaps you are playing it even less than I was.

Submitted by MikeFont on Wednesday, June 21, 2017

Which buttons are you referring to JT? And which buttons on which screen.

Hope I can help as there isn't one accessibility issue that I've found with Godville, uh so far. :)
And yeah, cool, I did see where you friended me Apple Fan. Not sure if I have to refriend back? or what..
Thanks! :D

without reinstalling it again, I am sure the Encourage and Create a miracle buttons can't be pressed.

As these are pretty much the only one I ever pressed, I gave up.

It's sad as I see I have been playing the game for over 6 years - so much investment going to waste.

the only good news was that my hero had managed to get a pet to level 30 without me - something I was never able to do.

I am playing on an iPhone 7+ with the latest iOS version and I do not have any issues with the buttons you've mentioned. Could it be that your device may not be supported anymore or, at least, the iOS version that you are running?

Submitted by MikeFont on Wednesday, June 21, 2017

Hi, I've found the Encourage and the punish button, but I've yet to see a Create a miracle button. Wonder if that's an older version of Godville? That's a long time to have been playing for JT, I'd hate to see you stop for the lack of these two buttons, though they are important. Hope something works out for you. Luck JT!

Submitted by Orinks on Thursday, June 22, 2017

FYI, creating miracles is only possible once a temple is built. Also only use it when absolutely necessary as they have pretty drastic effects at a cost of a crap ton of god power.
Encourage can be pressed, as well as punish and Send to arena. Once you get a temple, "Send to Dungeon" is added.

Speaking of Dungeons, this is one area where I'm not sure blind people can lead very well. i've tried it, and I don't know how best to lead my party.

After reading what you said about a blind person not being able to effectively lead a party in a dungeon, my question is: does this affect our heroes? I mean is this part of the game something that leaves us out completely? Do you think that it would be a good idea to ask the developers for some help in this matter?

Submitted by Muffin Man on Thursday, June 22, 2017

Hullo, all. Elagobalus here, feel free to add me as a friend in Godville. As far as dungeons go, I haven't found a way to use maps effectively. Best plan is to use guild forum to co-ordinate dungeon drop, then follow designated driver. You can still be useful in duels and group healing. On the other hand, I have no idea how to sail effectively. Nevertheless, a great game and one of my favourite ways of wasting time. Oh, and a big shout out to Guild Name!

First of all, thank you for adding me to your friends list in Godville. It is great to know that there is someone with experience in the game that can help us and guide us. In the level that I am in at the moment, I don't think I will be making dungeon trips just yet. I guess I would not be allowed until I reach a certain level or maybe certain experience. Nevertheless, I have a question: when you are part of an expedition your hero will go where the leader goes, or you have to be there, somehow, to guide him? Another question: do you think it would be a good idea to get in touch with the developers and maybe see if they can help making the dungeon trips a little more accessible For blind players? Have a great day, everyone.

Submitted by Orinks on Thursday, June 22, 2017

My hero name is Orinks, god name is Orig.

I'll add you to mine. It'll be interesting if our heroes cross pathes.
Regarding adding accessibility to dungeons, if you go back a ways in the blog, they said they added it, though I'm not sure how to go about using what they added to make maps more readable.

Submitted by JT on Thursday, June 22, 2017

I use an iPhone 7, fully up-to-date. I have the latest version of the game, June the 11th I think.

I can not press any of the buttons at all, not even 3rd eye!

I can also not activate the last two of the tabs stuff and pantheons I think. It is weird as it sounds like nobody else has this problem.

That is indeed strange. Like I said in the subject, maybe you should try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.I can't think of any other way to fix the issue you're having with your app. Good luck. Hope you're able to get it to work properly.

Hi, I can't search any friends. I type an username to search and it says your hero has no friends yet, I DONT CARE JUST SHOW ME THE RESULTS...
Where should I search?

What level are you in the game? You have to open the friends screen are double tap on the friends button, then go to filter, type the name of the person you're looking for and then when found, double tap on ad or invite.

Submitted by DrummerGuy on Saturday, June 24, 2017

I forgot to mention that if you are in the early levels you won't be able to add friends until later. I think it's level eight or 10, something like that. I don't remember exactly. I would add you but, at the moment, I have used up all my invitations. If I get an artifact that will allow me to invite or at somebody else, I will add you--If you haven't added me by then, that is.

I select the two and nothing happens. Does anybody else know how to do this?

Submitted by Joel on Sunday, December 1, 2019

You craft by finding two items of the same letter then double tapping on one and hitting the craft with button. Then, you select the artifact that you want to craft with the first one. There should now be a text box which instructs the hero to craft the two artifacts together. Hit send. You’re hero May not listen at first. Make sure that the hero is idling which means he’s not fighting monsters or in town. Just on the road. Keep going back to your remote control and hitting send on that voice command until the hero listens.
