unable to pare bluetooth keybord with IPad

I'm having a weird issue while trying to pare a bluetooth keybord with my IPad air2 running 15.3. Whenever I press the pare button on the keybord I get the paring message asking me to enter the code and then not a half of a second later I get the paring unsuccessful message. How can I enter the code when it won't even give me a chance? lol. I tried turning off the keybord and turning it back on, toggling off and on bluetooth, restarted the IPad and still same message, it's like the paring code and the pare unsuccessful messages are both coming up at the same time. This gets even weirder as the keybord isn't even showing up under my bluetooth devices so I'm not able to even try forgetting the device and readding it. I know this keybord works with my IPad because I've had it pared before. Any ideas?
Thanks

Maybe resetting network settings would help.
