Hardware and Accessories

Hi folks.
As the subject says, I'm just thinking.
Of corse, I'm wating for dec 12.
This would be for music production, and all that.
I was thinking of maxing it out.
16 gigs of ram, the Kore I7, and a 1tb ssd.
Just wondering what yall think?
Up til now, I've only used windows.

Don't count on bootcamp

By Keith

I bought a mac mini a few years ago with music production in mind. One consideration is that if you plan to work with windows and bootcamp there are some audio interfaces that have issues running on the windows side of things. Not sure how wide spread this is, but I have had trouble getting my interface to work at a pro level in bootcamp. If you do hope to use bootcamp for audio applications I would advise double checking your hardware's compatibility before making your purchase.

Mac Mini

As the Mac Mini hasn't been updated since 2014, I would not recommend buying it at this time. Apple is currently rumored to be updating the Mac Mini some time in October, so if you can wait, that's what I'd recommend.

Logic Pro?

If you're planning on using Logic Pro X with MacOS, I strongly recommend you get a 2018 Macbook pro or an iMac Pro with maximum ram. On my 2016 MacBook Pro, Logic often locked up, and it often took a while to process. You will be glad you purchased a more powerful computer.

Logic Pro and Macbook Air

I have a 2017 mMBA maxed out at 512 gig ssd, core i7, and 8 gig ram. Logic seems to work fine on it. I've not had that much of an issue with it. I don't really use the stock instruments as much, unless I have to, but in my testing, they worked just fine. But frankly, if you can afford it, go for a macbook pro 2018, and max that out. It'd probably net you the most longevity.

Mac Mini

I would not purchase the current Mac Mini. Apple is selling a 2014 era computer for the same price 4 years later! That is horrible! When Steve Jobs ran the company, macs were updated at least once a year. Maybe Apple will come out with new Mac Minis and MacBook Airs this year. Then again, maybe they won't and will continue to churn out boring iPhone models. I'm honestly bored by every new product announcement. All their innovation is gone! The mac is stagnating both hardware and software wise.

Thoughts?

What are your thoughts on the new 2018 Mac Mini? I'm glad Apple finally went to SSD storage. It's also good that Apple put a variety of ports on the machine.

I'm glad they updated the mini. This is my first mac. I thought about the macbook air, but didn't want to pay for that retina display that wouldn't do me any good.
