New AirPods and audio quality?

Hi all,

For those of you who have the new AirPods with Bluetooth 5.0, can you please answer this question? I have found reviews of the new device on YouTube, and as long as you're using a Bluetooth 5.0 transmitter, the microphone quality seems to be much better than Bluetooth 4 and earlier.

If you're using the AirPods in microphone mode with a Bluetooth 5.0 transmitter like the iPhone 8 or newer, do you receive stereo audio or does the sound quality degrade to 8000 hertz and become mono as it does in previous versions of Bluetooth? I was hoping that Bluetooth 5.0 would finally solve the audio delay and microphone problems Bluetooth has had since it's inception. From what I hear, the responsiveness is significantly improved, so I want to know about the microphone.
