Impressions of my new Mac so far

Hello all,
I have now had my Mac for almost two weeks. So far I am liking it ok. It is very different than Windows. I do like how all the default apps do work fairly well with Voiceover out of the box. I do find that apps are fairly expensive to get and there is not much in the way of free or lower cost apps. For example I was looking at BBEdit for doing HTML work and it is $50. One area that is giving me trouble is using Voiceover on the web with Safari. Voiceover seems to get stuck a lot on elements on web pages. This is especially true of web pages with more complex elements like menu bars and such. Also is there a way to see a download progress like you can on Windows browsers? Despite a few quirks, overall I am liking it so far. I do have a Windows10 key and the ISO downloaded so I can install windows via bootcamp soon to see how that works.

Regards,
Greg Wocher

Hi Greg,
Welcome to the wonderful world of macs. Yeah, there's a way to see how far along your downloads are. When you download stuff, press CMD, command+option+L in safari. Then interact with the table of downloads, and interact with the download you want.. Hope this helps you!

Hello, First, don't forget that the App Store isn't the only place to get Mac software. Unlike iOS, you can install any software you want, mostly. If the software has been signed by a registered developer, it doesn't matter if it's in the App Store or not. Hermes is a good example of this (a free, open-source Pandora client). [MacUpdate](http://www.macupdate.com] is a good site for software, but there are plenty of others.

I know VO can sometimes get stuck in a menu when a page first loads (looking at you, Youtube), but that's the only time I've seen this. Safari can be difficult to grasp overall, though; you might find my Safari guide helpful.

Hello,
www.macupdate.com does not appear to work. I tried on both my Windows machine and my Macbook and could not get to this site. I am not sure but I wonder if this site is gone now?

I don't know, but the last time I checked on macupdate was when I downloaded soundnote. I think it's still up, but not sure. I wouldn't be surprised if it whent down and anyone didn't even notice it!
