Hi there,
Many El Capitan users have reported high battery usage. That was in the betas. Well, I am noticing that on my 2015 Mac Air 11. At least I am not getting the extra one-hour time promised by Apple when upgrading to El Capitan. On the other hand, my 2012 MacBook Pro did have that extra one-hour battery. Though it might sound strange but the extra battery life might be directed to older Apple Macs.
Try checking Activity Monitor and see which app is using much power than what it is expected to use.

I've never been able to get more then 10 Youare doing nothingn wrong, disable power nap if you want as well. Also turn on screen curtain. that actually helps. I can get 7 hours on a good day and that for me is all right as I can work with that.

also dim the keyboard brightness to minimum by pressing on F5 let's say for ten times. You can toggle auto screen brightness and keyboard brightness to save power too.

Hi. I'm experiencing battery cut after updating to El Capitan compared with as I used Yosemity too.
A little bit disappointing with that but I believed I might have found the reason.
Having regular check in Activity Monitor, I see the two most significant tasks that impact CPU load as well as energy usage are Wi-fi and AccountSD. Those suddenly eats about 20% of CPU load and instantly jump back to around 0-5% again. However, after I disable FileVault, those tasks did not appear as an impact to my CPU and energy load anymore. Still I'm progressing in checking its real effect.
Ah, forgot saying that I'm using a MacAir 13" early 2014.
