Need help beta testing a medication reminder

App Development and Programming

Hi everyone,

my name is Marian and I'm a computer science student from Germany. I'm new to this forum, so I'm unsure where to post this. Also, English is not my first language, so please be forgiving if I make some mistakes.

Right now, I am developing my second app. Since it's only my second, it's relatively simple. It's a medication diary called My Med Story. You can input and store your doctors, diagnosis's, and drugs. That way you get an overview of your medical history. You will also be able to print PDFs with that information which you can give to your doctor (e.g. a list of all drugs you are taking or a list of all doctors who are treating you). It will also remind you when it's time to take your drugs.

The app is not finished, I am right in the middle of development. It will take another two to four months till it's done. It's not that much to do, but I'm doing it in my spare time, so it takes a while.

Two things are very important to me, personally: Privacy and Accessibility.

The app encrypts your data, and your data never leaves your device, it is not sent to any server and not analyzed or in some other way exploited. There are no advertisements. That's also why the app will cost money eventually, 2 or 3 dollars or something – since I don't make any money off the users' data.

I would also like to build this app in a way that is accessible to every user. I don't have much experience in this area, but I once taught a blind friend to use an iPhone, I guess that's more experience than most developers have. That's why I built accessibility into the app from the very beginning (and also because I have a very mild form of autism – I know from personal experience how it feels like to be excluded).

I was wondering if I could find someone who'd be willing to test my app before it's released and give me some feedback on the accessibility of it. We could develop the accessibility features together. As I'm just a student doing this in my spare time and the money I might earn through the app goes primarily to Apple (they charge me 100 $ a year just to get access to the App Store and they keep 30 % of all revenue) I'm afraid I can't pay you. I don't develop this app for financial success but for the opportunity to learn programming.

Is there anyone in this forum who'd like to do that accessibility testing with me? Or do you have a suggestion where I might find someone? You would need an iPhone or iPod touch (not an iPad) with access to the App Store. The app would be in English (and later in German). You would of course get the app for free, first as a beta test app in Test Flight, and later, when it's released, the full app.

If you have any questions or suggestions, I'd be delighted.

Thank you

Marian

Oh my god. I just tested out my competitors, with voice over support turned on. They are painfully bad. I’m truly sorry that we as developers do such a bad job for people with special needs. From now on I will design accessibility into every product I do.

You are so appreciated!

Hello Otacon, Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness regarding accessibility. I look forward to your app. Again, thank you for your hard work and recognition of us VO users.
