In iOS 27, there is a new Recovery Menu that allows one to troubleshoot and restore their iOS device without a computer. The Recovery Menu has a number of options, including Recovery Assistant, Software Update, Diagnostics Mode, Erase All Content and Settings, and Recovery Mode. Unfortunately, there is no spoken feedback whatsoever when in Device Diagnostics mode, rendering this particular option completely inaccessible.
**Important**: We do not recommend attempting the below steps just to reproduce this issue, as this will render your device without speech until it is restarted into normal mode.
1. Open the Recovery Menu by doing the following:
* Press and release the Volume up button quickly.
* Press and release the volume down button quickly.
* Press and hold the Side Button for approx. 20 seconds, until the device restarts and enters the Recovery Menu. Then, wait approx. 1 minute for the device to be ready to use.
* Enable VoiceOver by pressing the Side Button three times quickly.
* Navigate to and select the 'Diagnostics Mode' option. This will open the 'Diagnostics Mode' screen.
* Navigate to and select the 'Restart iPhone' option. This will put the iPhone into Diagnostics Mode.
* After the device restarts into Diagnostics Mode, enable VoiceOver by pressing the Side Button three times quickly.
* Observe that VoiceOver does not appear to work at all in Diagnostics Mode.
