What's New and Changed for Blind and Low Vision Users in iOS 7.1

Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team
iOS 7.1 is now available for download via Over-the-Air Update and iTunes.

Since November of last year, members of the AppleVis Editorial Team have been busy testing iOS 7.1 in all stages of the beta process. Beginning with Beta 3, two of our team ran the betas on their primary devices and found it to be a very enjoyable experience that only got better as the beta cycle continued

While no software from any manufacturer is ever bug-free, we were impressed with the number of VoiceOver bug fixes in iOS 7.1 and applaud the Apple Accessibility team for a job well done.

Below is a list of the new accessibility features and accessibility improvements we are aware of in iOS 7.1. As always, it is entirely possible that we have overlooked something. So, if you notice any other changes or have a question about something we did not cover, please do post below in the comments.

New Accessibility Features in iOS 7.1:

  1. A new Accessibility option that turns on "Button Shapes". This is intended to make buttons easier to distinguish from other text on the screen (such as icon labels).
  2. The increase contrast setting found at Settings>General>Accessibility now contains three options rather than being a single Toggle. This should make it easier for low-vision users to fine-tune the settings to something that best suits their personal circumstances. The 3 options are:
    1. Reduce Transparency: when enabled, this should make some text and page elements become solid colours, thus providing a better contrast against the background.
    2. Darken Colors: when enabled, this uses slightly darker versions of the colors used in some apps (for example, the light blue used in Safari and Settings becomes a darker shade of blue)
    3. Reduce White Point: when enabled, this makes the general whiteness of iOS 7 a little duller, so should help those who suffer from glare.
  3. Enabling the Bold Text option now thickens icons as well as text on iOS labels. It also now changes the fonts used in the keyboard and the calculator.
  4. The option to Reduce Motion now also effects the native Weather app, Messages, and multitasking UI animations.
  5. There are new wallpapers which low-vision users may find make it easier for them to see text and images. These wallpapers are available in a selection of solid colors with a polka dot pattern.
  6. You can now set different speech rates for each language that you have on the language rotor. To do so, go to Settings>General>Accessibility>VoiceOver>Languages & Dialects and double-tap the ‘Info’ button that you will find next to the relevant language from the list of those enabled on the rotor.

Accessibility Improvements in iOS 7.1:

  1. The quality of the Vocalizer compact voices for United States English, British English, Australian English, and several other languages has been improved.  While not directly related to accessibility, new Siri voices (with gender options) are available for U.K. English, Australian English and some other languages.
  2. Folder badges now work as intended.
  3. The closing folder sound now works as intended.
  4. VoiceOver now reads all of the information on the Favorites tab in the Phone app.
  5. When creating a new text or iMessage, you can now swipe to the text field after entering a contact.
  6. VoiceOver focus is now more consistent when selecting multiple messages in the Mail app.
  7. VoiceOver focus is now more consistent when using the Actions rotor in the Mail app to delete messages.
  8. The Reminders app now gives feedback to VoiceOver users that lists are draggable for reordering.
  9. The Status bar on the lock screen now has hints for both the swiping up and swiping down gestures.
  10. VoiceOver no longer repeats the locked screen announcement.
  11. While adjusting the volume using the volume buttons with the screen locked, VoiceOver no longer says "screen locked" after the adjustment is made.
  12. VoiceOver volume can now be adjusted above 35% using the rotor on all devices.
  13. You can now swipe through all options under Settings>Music when iTunes Match is enabled.
  14. When you have just installed an app update, VoiceOver will now announce ‘Recently Updated’ right after the app’s name when you put VoiceOver focus on to its icon on the Home screen.
  15. VoiceOver no longer announces every time slot when swiping through the day’s calendar in the Notifications Center. Now, it will only announce any scheduled events.
  16. The random resetting of Inverted Colors no longer appears to happen.
  17. Pressing the control key on a Bluetooth keyboard now works as intended and stops VoiceOver from speaking.
  18. The editing commands in Braille, such as space with dots 2-3-5-6 to select all; space with C to copy, etc. now function as expected.
  19. The virtual keyboard can now be toggled on and off successfully with space and dots 1-4-6 in Braille.
  20. VoiceOver now correctly reads the information for Cellular Data Usage available through Settings.
  21. When Siri asks a question that requires a response, speech now usually finishes before the microphone is activated for your answer.
  22. All buttons now appear to be correctly labeled and work as expected when using the Music app to listen to an audiobook.
  23. When using the Photo app, VoiceOver now once again gives feedback on whether there are faces in the framed shot.
  24. When in the Messages app, VoiceOver now once again provides feedback when the other person in an iMessage exchange is typing.
  25. When Siri is active, a Magic Tap (two-finger double tap) once again toggles listening on and off. This was a feature in iOS 6, but broke in iOS 7.0.x.
  26. The letters which accompany the number keys on the phone keypad and passcode entry screen are once again announced by VoiceOver after the number itself is announced.
  27. You can once again have VoiceOver read a single line in iBooks by locating it with your finger.
  28. VoiceOver focus no longer jumps so easily from text edit fields if you inadvertently touch the screen outside of the field whilst entering text.

Bugs in iOS 7.1:

  1. Navigating the App Store is still unreliable and inconsistent with VoiceOver, although some minor improvements appear to have been made - such as when swiping left from the bottom menu bar on the Featured tab.
  2. Navigating by Heading in Safari remains inconsistent, and VoiceOver focus can still jump to the wrong place as you try to move through the page.
  3. Audio playback still does not consistently return to its previous level after being automatically lowered when VoiceOver is speaking, although it does appear to less evident.
  4. It can still sometimes take a second or two for VoiceOver to announce the time when the sleep/wake button is pressed. Likewise, there is still sometimes a delay for the screen to lock when pressing the lock button.
  5. VoiceOver focus can be inconsistent when navigating Settings on an iPad or iPad Mini.
  6. VoiceOver does not always give an audible alert and/or move focus when a pop-up alert/menu is displayed on screen.
  7. If you have autolock enabled there are some instances where the device will lock when you are actually using an app (MBraille and Fleksy are known examples).
  8. On the Activity page for Shared Photo Streams in the Photos App, VoiceOver does not read the text that accompanies items. For example, this text might say “Fred posted a photo. Fred’s Shared photos.” All that VoiceOver reads is the ‘Like’ button which is visually located next to this text.
  9. When using a Bluetooth keyboard or Braille display, VoiceOver does not consistently provide feedback when you have copied text using Command+c or Space+c.
  10. When using the App Switcher to close or move between apps, VoiceOver may say “App Switcher” when you return to the Home screen or switch apps. In the case of the Home screen, VoiceOver will say “App Switcher” followed by where its focus is (such as a folder name). In the case of switching apps, VoiceOver will announce the name of the app closely followed by “App Switcher”. This behavior does not appear to happen every time.
  11. When you search for a particular string in the Calendar app (such as ‘dentist’), a list of results is displayed. The date that VoiceOver announces for each of these events bears no resemblance to the dates actually displayed on the screen. And, it is the displayed dates which are the correct ones.
  12. Entering text with a Bluetooth keyboard can be problematic. In some circumstances VoiceOver will announce non-standard characters as you type. The number, navigation and function keys appear to work as expected. Some users report that turning the Bluetooth keyboard off and on again can temporarily correct this behavior.
  13. When content contains more than 1 language, VoiceOver detection of the switch between languages is unreliable.
  14. In the Game Center app, VoiceOver does not read the names listed in either the A-Z or Recents lists on the Friends tab.
We would like to express our gratitude to Amy Mason for her help in identifying the changes in iOS 7.1 for low-vision users.

hello there is a serious error in game center, with voiceover you can no longer browse friends, challenges and active matches the screen reader just behaves as there was a blank page

#52 Automatic language switching in IOS 7.1 is broken

Hi all, well I've just encountered a new bug which is very disappointing. Language detection doesn't seem to work anymore when reading mixed texts, e.g. web-pages. An annoying bug indeed, as I'm often reading multilingual texts. I think someone already mentioned it on the boards related to the Arabic TTS, I presume the same happens using any language pair. Hope it's fixed in the next updates. I'm happy they finally resolved issues with Braille, but now reading texts in a foreign language with speech turned on is not a very exciting experience. When the text contains two languages or more, you have to listen to it spoken in a foreign accent, e.g. English text spoken by Russian tts and vicer versa. If there is any workaround for this apart from changing the language in the rotor settings, I'll be glad to find it. Or probably it's just my personal bug. I have IPhone5 just in case.

#53 No improvement for the messed-up norwegian voice

The norwegian voice was messed up when iOS 7.0 was released, almost to the point where it's unbearable to listen to. Apple more or less promised in november, that improving the quality of the norwegian voice, among several other voices, was being prioritized in the next big release; iOS 7.1 Nothing has changed, and the norwegian voice is still lisping worse than a Barcelonian luxes prostitute with a serious speech defect. And I'm still stuck with having to hold on tight to iOS 6.1.4... I'm just so extremely disappointed today... This is the day I and many other norwegian VO users have been waiting for, and unfortunately it became a sad day, instead of being the day that we could join the world of happy iOS 7 users... :( *sad*

#54 toggling entering of capitals on bluetooth keyboard

Hi, has the issue where VoiceOver always says capslock off when you toggle entering of capital letters on a Bluetooth keyboard been fixed? this issue is annoying as of corse the only way to check if you are actually entering capitals or not is to review the text you have entered. This was introduced with IOS7.0 and hasn't been fixed as of IOS 7.0.6 which is where I am staying for now.

#55 Siri

Hello all, Has Siri gotten any new features with this latest iOS update?

#56 RE: Siri

Club AppleVis Member

It sounds to me like the only things about Siri that have changed are that it now has some better built-in voices for other languages than U.S. English, and that you can set it to stop listening to your voice when you let up on the Home button.

#57 Bug reduced, curiosity in motion

Earlier, I was browsing through the posts on Twitter or Facebook and saw that one of my friends observed the speed of the iPhone 4 when reduce motion was enabled. Since the comment was positive, I wanted to see if the slowness of my dad's 4 would disappear. Though it's still noticeable, I made an interesting discovery: After shutting down one of the apps on his phone, I heard VoiceOver announce the words "app switcher." This didn't occur before reduce motion was turned on, so it was strange to hear that announcement. Interested and curious by what had happened, I turned off reduce motion. As you might have guessed, the app switcher announcement was no longer heard. I tried it on my iPhone 5S with the same results. At least there's a way to stop one of the aforementioned bugs. I'd be interested to see if others can reproduce it and tell us what happens.

#58 Safari Shows Web Page domain Instead of Address

This seems like a positive change but it seems that Safari now shows the web page title instead of just saying "address" in that area. there's no functional change, double tap to enter a new address.

#59 re: app switcher work around

Thanks for telling us about the app switcher work around. Can someone email the apple accessibility address and maybe present the work around? the message confused me a bit and I"m not using iOS 7.1 as of yet, so I won't email them in case I get it wrong.

Take care to all.

#60 App switcher bug

You're welcome. In short, here's the workaround: If reduce motion were turned off, the "app switcher" announcement won't be heard. If it were on, you will hear the announcement.

#61 re: app switcher work around

Ah Ok. thanks. I would not feel comfortable emailing hat dapple accessibility team as I don't have the update installed as of yet, so those of you who can test this please email them that way they can fix it in a minor release, maybe. and be sure to do it in bug report format.

Be blessed to all.

#62 Bug report sent

I've read the blog about sending bug reports to Apple and have tried to follow it. I just sent them an e-mail with the details they may need to reproduce it. Oddly, the bug doesn't surface while on a voice call.

#63 Well good luck, also if you

Well good luck, also if you have XCode logs of the event, email them as well. Iv'e done this and it seems to help troubleshoot the situation. I've also read those logs and let's sa they are very detailed.

#64 Nasty bug in Calendar app

Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

There seems to be a rather nasty VO bug in the calendar app. When I search for a particular string, a list of results is displayed. Unfortunataly, the date that VoiceOver announces for each of these events bears no resemblance to the dates actually displayed on the screen. And, it is the displayed dates which are the correct ones. As I said, not nice, and confirmed by somebody who could read the displayed dates.

#65 unlocking device using a braille display

Club AppleVis Member

Is it again possible to use space with c to unlock the device again or do you still have to use the OW sign with space twice?

#66 The turkish vocalizer

The turkish vocalizer compavct voice doesnt appeare to have any issues

#67 BT keyboard

I am glad Apple did a lot of improvements, but they broke the one thing that they should have paid more attention to, which was Bt keyboars. They don't always work, and I need consistant access and the ability to be able to pick up my keyboard and be able to just start typing and know that my iPhone will recognize everything correctly as it used to. Earth to Apple. Frown

#68 Language Switching in U.S. English

Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

One thing I noticed with the Facebook app (and Twitter this morning, so it appears to be a system-wide thing) is that if VoiceOver thinks text is in a different language, it will automatically switch to that language. The problem is, all of the things I read are in English and I don't want VoiceOver to automatically switch...because the language changes are not accurate.

#69 More observations

Club AppleVis Member

First, I earlier reported an issue in Safari where the keyboard shortcuts like Command-W did not work. Since then, I have found that they actually do work...sometimes. I didn't even realize I was using the shortcuts until they decided to quit working again. Gotta love the inconsistency. Next, someone asked about the Caps Lock announcement. I just checked, and the bug appears to be fixed. I can also confirm what others have found, that having reduced motion turned on is what causes the App Switcher bug. The on-screen presentation is different under iOS 7.1 when using the App Switcher and reduced motion is on, so I suspect the bug is a side-effect of this new behavior.

#70 My thoughts

Hello AppleVis members, After reading the above improvements to IOS 7.1; I felt like I was missing quite a bit. I was, and still am, excited about all of the updated things that the 7.1 update has braught. I actually considered losing my jailbreak in order to remedy the one or two minor annoiances that were still present in IOS 7.0.4 for me (Jailbreaking has remedied some of the annoiances all by itself). However, after reading about some of the items I have heard about that come with the update; I'm glad I am still jailbroken and running IOS 7.0.4. I guess it looks as if we have traded some of our eggs in our baskets for new eggs, instead of getting rid of them altogether. The calendar issue David braught up is especially concerning to me personally as I do not believe that was present before the update. My question is; do you all feel that in performing the upgrade, you improved your experience on IOS, or did it stay the same, or has your experience gotten worse? I am perfectly happy with my jailbroken I Phone 5s running 7.0.4 and I plan to stay right here until IOS 8 and the subsequent jailbreak, if there is one. I guess the bottom line here is that there are trade-offs. Are those trade-offs more or less of a big deal to you though? Let me here your thoughts. Thank you. -Andrew-

#71 using bluetooth keyboard is very annoying

Hello. it has been mentioned a lot in this thread that using Bluetooth keyboards has become very annoying. for me, I have to turn off / on my keyboard after typing each message to get it to work again. if someone finds a work around please let us know.

#72 agreed

Hi Maya and others. yes, indeed, automatic language switch has been broken again. with a broken Bluetooth keyboard support, I wish I can roll back to IOS 7.06. does anyone know a way to do that?

#73 VOICES

The south african english voice has a new bug. I can no longer reduce the speaking rate and it speaks at an incredibly high rate. as a result, i have to use ither the british or US voice.

#74 7.1 using more than normal battery life?

I've noticed my battery since updating to 7.1 seems to be draining faster, is there a setting that got turned on when I updated that caused this?

#75 Battery Life in iOS 7.1

Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

Hi Troy, I have an iPhone 5S, and I have never really gotten good battery life from it. Unfortunately, this is still the case in iOS 7.1. I don't consider myself to be a heavy user and I have brightness at 0, background app refresh off, etc.

#76 Voice on IOS 7.1

After upgrading, I would have to disagree that Apple have improved VoiceOver Voices. The High Quality Voices are like robots/Daliks and the Compact Voices are very muffled. I used to prefer using the Australian English but now it is muffled and does not pronounce words like "button" etc correctly.

#77 To Update or Not

Andrew, I am usually a proponent of updating your device ASAP. However, I found myself yesterday recommending that someone not update their iPad Mini to 7.1 because of the Bluetooth keyboard issues and their use of a Bluetooth keyboard on the iPad Mini. So, I think people need to be aware before they update and be sure any of the bugs that are listed are not deal-breakers.

#78 Hi, another question does the

Hi, another question does the time and date read properly on the status bar when the phone is locked in ios 7.1? Since ios 7.0 there was an issue where time and date wouldn't read on the status bar when the phone was locked, and when you flicked over it you just got a blank clicking sound with no feedback from VoiceOver, however the information would read correctly when the phone was unlocked. Wondering if this has been fixed in 7.1.

#79 No it hasn't

No it hasn't, neither was anything like this mentioned in the release notes. Time for a heads up to Apple me thinks. Not that it's major of course but certainly annoying. What I do is get the time by bringing up the lock screen and it should be the first thing VoiceOver reads except when a track is playing when the media player controls display on the lock screen.

#80 Changing From Phone Mode to Speaker Mode in iPhone

As a new iPhone user, I have noticed that when using VoiceOver, the switching from phone mode to speaker mode happens too easily during a phonecall, while it has to be done manually without VoiceOver. Couldn't this VO feature be optional, or could the switching be done by shaking the phone instead of automatically like now? Automation may be convenient, but it should also be possible to disable.

#81 time is status bar

i don't think this was the case in IOS 6, but in IOS 7, the time was moved out of the status bar on the lock screen so that it was bigger and easier to see. it is not out side of the status bar and the date is right below it. in its place is an empty space in the status bar, so even if you wanted it to read it, you can't from with in the status bar. the time is no longer in the status bar. just touch the screen. besides, half the time, voice over reads the time when you unlock your device anyway.

#82 ın ios7 i could not get out

ın ios7 i could not get out of th control center by pressinyg the home button but now i can

#83 I wonder why they have chosen

I wonder why they have chosen to leave empty space on the status bar, I didn't realise they had got rid of the time from it completely. Surely a lot of sighted users find that empty space not doing anything ugly and annoying, I know I do as it makes a pointless flick when navigating the status bar. also it should be noted that in the jailbreak tweak springtomise 3 there is still an option to hide the time in the status bar section so I am not sure if your right about them having removed the time from the status bar. This option doesn't remove the time from the lock screen which is something I would like to do. Its interesting though that none of the options in springtomise 3 allow you to remove that annoying empty click you get with VoiceOver it would be very interesting to find out from someone sighted what is under that empty click.

#84 my iOS 7.1 findings

Hi. Once again I am the rare person here and don't seem to be having many problems, my phone actually works faster believe it or not! and it hasn't locked up either, In the previous iOS 7.0 versions, it would lock up at random times and I would have to hold the home and screen lock buttons down to reboot the phone. I haven't had to do that at all in iOS 7.1. As far as voices go, I'm one of these rare folks who use the American English HQ voice and have had no problems with it whatsoever. It's amazing how software speech effects people. What might sound good to one person might sound awful to someone else and I've never quite been able to figure out why. I've not had any issues with my Bluetooth keyboard either, I guess i'm extremely lucky! In case anyone's interested, I'm using an amazon basics Bluetooth keyboard, so if anyone's thinking about maybe trying another one that's certainly one to try. There was one time when the keyboard lost focus but waiting a few seconds and turning quicknav on, and off again seemed to fix it, and it hasn't happened since then. I heard a demo of what can happen but I've not been able to re-produce it here. I have found a few minor bugs, though. Both of them have to do with the phone app. I was talking to my GF this morning, and right in the middle of our conversation, here comes VoiceOver, yacking away again with a push notification for something. In iOS 7.0x this went away and I was supremely happy. It's back in 7.1 though. Not a huge deal but I may have to turn speech off while in a call to shut VoiceOver up. Also, I've had a couple issues with the phone switching to and from speaker phone mode while I have it held to my ear. It's like it couldn't make up it's mind what it wanted to do and kept switching back and forth between them. That only happened a couple times though so I'm not sure what to say about that one. Either way i'm mostly having a positive experience with iOS 7.1. I'm sorry so many of you guys are having issues, especially with Bluetooth keyboards. It can be so frustrating when you have a problem that's bugging you to absolutely no end, but other folks just aren't seeing it. So you guys having a problem should quite definitely write to Apple and let them know of your issues. The more people who write in, the more seriously they'll take things.

#85 whats in the status bar

while i already said what was in the status bar, i'll reexplain it if you didn't understand. from left to right here it goes. 1. signal strength, 4 of 5 bars. 2. sprint network. 3. 3 of 3 wifi bars. 2 wire 114. 4. empty place where the time was. apparently they haven't remove the code that tells voice over its an element so it still goes there, but alas, there isn't anything actually there. 5. 78% battery power. now completely outside of the status bar there are two lines of text. the first one is the time. 11:09 A.M. here currently. and under that is the date, Wednesday march 12th. i actually can see what is there under that empty space and there is nothing, no text, no picture, nothing. hopefully you understand now.

#86 aah thanks for the

aah thanks for the explanation, Think I will have to email Apple about this as its a minor annoyance but still there. One question though, when the phone is unlocked VoiceOver displays the time on the status bar, so does this mean that the phone reads the time on the status bar when unlocked but when it is locked just displays empty space where the time used to be?

#87 Bluetooth option might be enabled

Troy, the reason for your battery's quick drainage might be because of your Bluetooth setting. When I updated my phone to iOS 7.1, it was automatically turned on. If you'd like to switch it off, go into settings, Bluetooth, and you should find a button that'll allow you to toggle it on or off. I'm a bit disappointed with the BT keyboards not working. Though I don't use one myself, I know that it's pretty important for some users who do take advantage of them. I'm not sure this will help, but I've read/and or heard that resetting the keyboard's dictionary does something to resolve a problem. It might not be linked to the issues that some people are having, but I just wanted to put it out there. I hope Apple can fix this bug as soon as possible.

#89 the bluetooth keyboard issue

I'm new on this forum.. Just signed up today after reading this excelent review on the new iOS 7.1 update last night.. I updated _my phone, and as a totally blind user I use the bluetooth keyboard and noticed the bug issue with entering text in any number of eddit fields, whether it be text or i Message, Facebook comment, or e-mail.. But I notice when moving the cursor around a little bit when "quick nav" is on, and I try to eddit again, sometimes I'm able to get results.. Not sure if this is a VoiceOver focusing issue or what, but I have noticed it.. Otherwise, I do like the voice improvements for the English language voices, and a lot of the other fixes.. I'm relatively new to the i Phone, have learned a lot about it over the last 6 months, and really love the i Phone for how accesible it is right out of the box!.. Thanks for this very helpful posting on the update.. Shawn

#90 possible bug when making outgoing calls?

Another issue I've noticed in 7.1 is when making outgoing calls if your face rubs up against the screen or something bumps the screen it will press buttons, I did not notice this in prev versions. One issue I did have that I'm glad it's gone is when texting a lot of the time I could not swipe past the contact button, this I found was the most annoying.

#91 Bluetooth keyboard problem in text field

I had a trouble on entering text by Bluetooth keyboard. I noticed that I could not enter any letter or displayed c character I did not type. In that case, pressing both CTRL and CAPS LOCK, it solved. I'm on Japanese environment, using third party's BT keyboard.

#92 Accessibility Improvements in iOS 7.1:

just after all the bad or voiceOver bugs confirmed on this thread here a new feature on iOS7.1 When voiceover is enable and the screen is locked as well the silence button is enable it means the choice to has mute sounds or alerts on iPhone devices. well I have disable to speak notifications in locked screen. VoiceOver doesn't speak or read nothing as well perfect that's the main function comparing previous versions voiceOver speak to you some items.

#93 amazon basics

Like tunehead, I have not noticed the issue on the amazon basics keybord, now I do have another keybord which I haven't tried.

#94 Fixed bug in 7.1

I noticed one very annoying bug that was fixed. First introduced in 7.0. While reading Google News, any story by AFP used to say Apple File Protocol. It no longer does.

#95 Things not effecting me.

Club AppleVis Member

OK, I promised the Applevis staff via Twitter that I would post this. Here is a list of the improvements from this post which never were a problem for me to start with in any build of IOS7 developer seed or official build, either/or. Even to the official public release of IOS 7.1, I've not been effected by the following things. Obviously, being it would be under N D A, I'm not gonna go into anything about the dev seeds, don't worry. I'll say this, and that is all I'll say: even in the dev seeds I've never seen these things occur. OK, my lips are sealed past that point. Anyway, from a public perspective, here is a list of the improvements which I never had an issue with to start with. The closing folder sound now works as intended. VoiceOver now reads all of the information on the Favorites tab in the Phone app. VoiceOver focus is now more consistent when using the Actions rotor in the Mail app to delete messages. VoiceOver volume can now be adjusted above 35% using the rotor on all devices. The random resetting of Inverted Colors no longer appears to happen. When Siri asks a question that requires a response, speech now usually finishes before the microphone is activated for your answer. When using the Photo app, VoiceOver now once again gives feedback on whether there are faces in the framed shot. When Siri is active, a Magic Tap (two-finger double tap) once again toggles listening on and off. This was a feature in iOS 6, but broke in iOS 7.0.x. As for the bugs that I am currently not seeing, they include: Navigating the App Store is still unreliable and inconsistent with VoiceOver, although some minor improvements appear to have been made - such as when Navigating by Heading in Safari remains inconsistent, and VoiceOver focus can still jump to the wrong place as you try to move through the page. It can still sometimes take a second or two for VoiceOver to announce the time when the sleep/wake button is pressed. Likewise, there is still sometimes VoiceOver focus can be inconsistent when navigating Settings on an iPad or iPad Mini. These have been tested using an AT&T 32GB gold IPhone 5S, and an AT&T 16GB white IPad 4.

#96 Siri Does Not Use Enhanced Quality Voice

After upgrade to 7.1, I realized Siri does not use enhanced quality voice and it now sounds horrible. I have been using enhanced quality Australian English for Voiceover and it still works after upgrade, so texts/browser and any screen element feedback, icon, apps, etc. continue to use enhanced quality voice, everything except Siri!

#97 Bug fixed with Messages app and braille display

Alright. I'm gonna explain this the best I can, and someone can just paraphrase. Ready? Too bad, here we go. lol. :) When entering messages, I'd go to a message to text someone, I'd click the field, and it would pop up "Text Message" and I'd start to type and it would be fine, the display would follow me, then I'd hit send. I would be able to stay in that message, and keep texting that person just fine, but when I'd go to a different message, the "Text Message" wouldn't pop up and the display wouldn't follow my typing unless I'd back space, flick away and back in to the field, or, in the end I just ended up clicking, space, and deleting the space, and it would be fine. Even if I went back to the person whom I'd started typing to at first, it would do this odd behavior. This is now, fixed. I noticed it, when I was typing to someone, and I was about to do that flick away come back thing, but it did it for me, then just to double check, I went to someone else, and texted them, and sure enough, I didn't have to take any extra steps. I noticed this most in the Messages app. I don't clearly remember any other app having this issue, well, accept for Facebook, but that also seems to be fixed.

#98 Zoom bug removed in 8OS 7.1

At least to me, with VoiceOver activated, when I activated Zoom, it automatically deactivated in, let's say, half an hour. It happened in iOS 7. Now, in iOS 7.1, it remains activated as long as I want, just such as in 6.x.

#99 Hi, although this isn't

Hi, although this isn't VoiceOver related, I am wondering has the ability to delete custom added labels from contacts been added back to IOS 7.1? The ability to delete custom labels was removed in an ios 7 update. This means for me at least on 7.0.6 if I add custom names for example to a phone number field once added I can't delete them in 7.0.6, which is most annoying when I have no need for them, and it also means I can't edit them if I make say a tiny mistake. Really hoping I can edit and delete labels again in 7.1.

#100 I also have this problem.

I also have this problem. Whenever I try to im put my passcode or any kind of text, my phone keyboard freezes and takes a long long time to respond. It will imput all these random letters and what have you without me actually hitting all of those. I really don't want to live with this issue.
