As of today, AppleVis and some of our team members are officially on Mastodon with our own AppleVis instance.
The AppleVis Mastodon instance is just for team members and AppleVis itself. However, anyone from any Mastodon instance can follow us thanks to Mastodon’s decentralized structure. To follow us from the Mastodon instance you’re on, simply open one of our profile pages and use the Follow button to be redirected to your instance; or, copy the link to one of our profiles, search for it in your Mastodon app of choice or instance's website, and double tap or click the Follow button.

We don’t know yet if Mastodon will be the next big thing. We also have no intention of closing down our AppleVis Twitter accounts. However, like many, we’ve grown increasingly uncomfortable with the direction Twitter is heading. Mastodon gives us somewhere new to explore and an opportunity to expand the places we connect with members of our community.
Initially, we had not planned to automatically post notifications of all new AppleVis content on Mastodon, as we do on Twitter. However, due to Twitter's decision to ban third-party apps, we have changed our decision. We hope that this feature will be beneficial for those who follow us on Mastodon.
If you are new to Mastodon, Thomas Domville has recently shared two podcasts that you might find helpful - Learning MetaText and Mastodon with AnonyMouse: Part 1 and Learning MetaText and Mastodon with AnonyMouse: Part 2. Although these focus on using a specific Mastodon app, they also serve as a good introduction to Mastodon itself. A recent AppleVis forum thread where people discuss their favourite Mastodon iOS apps is also likely to be useful. Finally, if you want a written introduction to Mastodon, TechCrunch has a beginner’s guide to Mastodon that's a good introduction.
See you on Mastodon!
