Apple Releases Seventh Generation iPod touch with A10 Fusion Chip and 256GB Storage Option

By AppleVis, 28 May, 2019

Ahead of next week's WWDC, Apple has quietly released a seventh generation iPod touch featuring an A10 Fusion processor.

The upgrade from the A8 chip found in the previous generation iPod touch will bring support for AR games and Group FaceTime to the new model.

In addition to the upgraded processor, the new iPod touch offers a 256GB model for the first time.

The 2019 iPod touch retains the chassis design dating back to 2012, meaning that its 4-inch screen, large bezels, and Home button that doesn't support Touch ID look very dated in Apple's current product line. However, today's update will ensure that the new iPod touch is capable enough to receive iOS updates for at least a few more years. It also keeps alive the iconic “iPod” brand name.

The seventh generation iPod touch is available to order online now at US$199 for the 32GB model, US$299 for 128GB, and US$399 for the 256GB.

Let us know in the comments your thoughts on the new iPod touch and whether you plan on buying one.

Was beginning to think that Apple had done away with the iPod

I was looking forward to this

I have long been an iPod touch user. My several generations are still going strong, but I was interested in a bigger, faster, shinier option. However, my use case was based on the Tango Remote app to allow me to remotely control the iPod and it's contents from my phone. This app was abandoned last year, and iOS 12.3 finally broke it. With no fix available, I looked at other remote music options and while I don't like it, the best option for me currently is to use my Windows laptop running iTunes as the music source, and the iTunes Remote app on my phone to control it. I would much rather pocket a 256 GB iPod, than lug a laptop, but, if I can't control it remotely, it's just not a hassle I choose to deal with.

If a remote option for an iPod comes along that works for me, it is very nice to know that there is still an iPod being produced and supported. I would love to go back to the ease of mobility my old solution provided.

i'd definitely get the iPod 7, if there was some kind of trade-in deal for those who have ipod 6 gens and want to upgrade.

It's about time!

It's about time! Glad that apple has finally released the iPod touch. but I'm happy with what I currently have now, an iPhone 7. no need for an iPod.

If I hadn't already purchased some other pricey gear this month, I'd be on the Apple site buying it right about now! But, now I know what I'll be buying when I have spending money available. I love my iPod touch 6th gen, (using it as I type), but the speed definitely leaves something to be desired. I look forward to a faster model and more storage so I can get back to using it like an iPad micro.

glad to hear this news

I'll definitely will be purchasing this. I've been looking forward to a new one. The old screen design is my favourite for Braille Screen Input, so I'm pleased to see new gear with that form factor.
