Apple Releases iOS 16.1.1, iPadOS 16.1.1, and macOS Ventura 13.0.1 With Bug Fixes

By AppleVis, 9 November, 2022

Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

Apple has today released iOS 16.1.1, iPadOS 16.1.1, and macOS Ventura 13.0.1 with bug fixes.

It is not known which specific bugs are fixed in these releases, as Apple's release notes only say that each update "includes bug fixes and security updates."

At the time of posting, it is unclear whether these updates contain any fixes, changes or regressions specific to blind and low vision users. If you do notice any changes to VoiceOver, Braille or low vision features during your use of these releases, please let us know by posting your findings in the comments.

iOS 16.1.1 and iPadOS 16.1.1 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update), via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or via iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier.

To install macOS Ventura 13.0.1, choose System Settings from the Apple menu, select General in the table, click Software Update in the scroll area, and click the Update Now button to begin the update process. If other updates are available, you can click "More info" to see details about them and select specific updates to install.

How to send Voice messages in iMessage

By James Dean

The way to send Audio Mesages in iMessage was changed in 16. You need to hit the "Apps" button, then find "audio." Then you can tap or hold to record your message as it says. It's more steps and I don't like it much, but it is stil possible. The change was made because apparently some sighted people were accidentally hitting the Audio Message button.

lock sound appears to be fixed

Hi,
The "snap" sound, that's played when you lock your screen, once again plays, as of this update.
I just tested it twice & it worked both times.
I'm using an iRhone 13 pro max running iOS16.1.1.

Is the lock sound louder?

I'll never understand why Voice Over cuts the sound so drastically, I mean by at least 25% or more. Anyway I'll install the updated 16.1.1 and see if it's any louder. I mean you could really know the phone was locked before, now it's this crappy little click? Ugh Apple wish you guys would really hear your customers on sound things...

oh yeah, you can hear it now.

Hi,
Yes, you can definately hear it now.
I'll give a demo shortly.

Still not fixed over here

My lock sound is extremely quiet, running the latest update on an iPhone 12. I remember back in the day when voice over would be yelling in your ear, they needed to turn that down. I get that. But the effects need some serious boosting. It's not even like I have any issues hearing it, it just drives me batty and more four letter words, that this is just something no one really cares about. thanks for the help though.

oh! yeah find the voice message

Had Trouble at First But...

I just updated my Mac this morning. At first I had a bit of trouble because I got notified last night that this update was available. But I was right in the middle of posting a comment on another website, so I just dismissed the notification. This morning when I went to download and install the update I had a bit of trouble locating it. But it worked in the end and thus far everything's working on my end. I still have the iPhone 7 so cannot comment on the latest regarding iOS. To the person who asked about intonation in Ventura, nope I don't think that's been fixed yet but will definitely play around with it some more.

Voice messages

Step 1. Go to Messages, and then Apps
Step 2. Select Audio.
Step 3. Go to the bottom and there should be a record button.
Step 4. Tap it and record your message.
Caution!: A bug I found was that if I move focus away from the Audio Message section of the screen while recording the controls would not be recognized by VO and the recording would be stuck in progress. Not sure if this is widespread but just keep that in mind until I find out more. And people, please comment here too if you've seen it.
Step 5. Click Stop.
Step 6. Go back up the apps until you find the send button. I struggled with this at first too, but now I'm okay at it.
