Apple Releases iOS 13.2.2 and iPadOS 13.2.2 to Address Background App Performance Issues and More

By AppleVis, 7 November, 2019

Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

Apple has today released iOS 13.2.2 and iPadOS 13.2.2.

According to Apple's release notes, these updates fix an issue that could cause apps running in the background to unexpectedly quit, which led to background apps refreshing more often than normal.

Release notes for iOS 13.2.2:

iOS 13.2.2 includes bug fixes and improvements for your iPhone. This update:

  • Fixes an issue that could cause apps to quit unexpectedly when running in the background
  • Resolves an issue where iPhone may temporarily lose mobile signal after a call
  • Addresses an issue where mobile data may temporarily not be available
  • Fixes an issue that caused replies to S/MIME encrypted email messages between Exchange accounts to be unreadable
  • Addresses an issue where using Kerberos single sign-on service in Safari may present an authentication prompt
  • Resolves an issue where charging may be interrupted on YubiKey Lightning-powered accessories

The release notes for the ‌iPadOS‌ 13.2.2 update are the same, with the exception of the fix for cellular issues.

With these updates coming so soon after iOS 13.2 and iPadOS 13.2 it is likely that these are minor releases focusing on the above fixes.

However, if you find any fixes, enhancements or regressions for blind and low vision users, do please let us know by posting a comment below.

If you are wondering what happened to iOS 13.2.1, it was released last week exclusively for the HomePod.

iOS 13.2.2 and iPadOS 13.2.2 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) or via Finder on a Mac and iTunes on PC.

Not that it is a big deal, but what happened to iOS 13.2.1? I never got that update.

iOS 13.3 beta

Well I hear that VO is more responsive and the beta works well and fast just like iOS 12 and up. We have to wait until iOS 13.3 is out in the middle of December.

As mentioned in the article, iOS 13.2.1 was only released for the HomePod. Why Apple decided not to use the same version number this time is anyone's guess, and with the iOS 13.3 Public Beta that came out yesterday, it won't be too long before we get it on our devices.

I just hope that they take a bit more time fine tuning it.

Well, after installing the update, and restarting the phone was OK, I went to check my news on the apple app, after several minutes, my Siri male voice stop and Siri female took over, Check rotor and he is not there. Hope later he comes back. Maybe he went out or to the bathroom.

Well Siri male default voice is back. He took to long in the bathroom. Hope he will not do that again. iOS 14 where are you? Hope you are stable and be lucky.

All Good over here

Just throwing myself into the ring here for good cheer. Or something like that, lol. But anyway...Love the comment about the polished piece of excrement. Lol if ya really do think that about iOS 13, then perhaps that's why my bathroom smells so bad. Oops, my phone just threw an alert at me that indicates this update of a couple days ago is being prepared and the device will restart momentarily. Please stand by!

Braille Screen Input bugg on homescreen

Even though the Braille Screen Input is on, it does not show up consistently on the homescreen so as to use it to find and open apps. Works if one of the doc items are touched and then roter is switched, but it some other item on the homescreen is touched and roter is switched Braille Screen input is nowhere to be found. Inpacts if one relies on BSI to find and open apps.

all is well over here!

I notice this too, but the work around of focusing on the dock is fine for me. I use BSI to open apps all the time.

Battery Drain

By sockhopsinger

It seems to me that since upgrading to iOS 13.2.2 there seems to be a battery drain. I am running an iPhone 11 so the battery drain should not be as noticeable as it is. Everything seemed fine until 13.2.2. Anyone else noticed that the battery seems to be draining at an alarming rate even when your phone is not in use?
