Apple Releases iOS 11.0.3; Fixing Problems with Audio and Haptic Feedback on some iPhones

By AppleVis, 11 October, 2017

Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

Apple has today released iOS 11.0.3, which addresses problems with audio and haptic feedback on some devices and unresponsive displays in specific circumstances.

According to Apple's release notes via MacRumors, iOS 11.0.3 includes the following fixes:

  • Fixes an issue where audio and haptic feedback would not work on some iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices.
  • Addresses an issue where touch input was unresponsive on some iPhone 6s displays because they were not serviced with genuine Apple parts.

It is our expectation that this release is to specifically address the above issues, so is unlikely to include any fixes for the bugs that iOS 11 introduced for blind and low vision users. However, , please let us know in the comments of any fixes, enhancements or regressions that you find in your own testing of this release.

iOS 11.0.3 is available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) or via iTunes on a Mac or PC.

no issues fixed?

Wow, so it's been about 4 hours since this went up, and no comments yet? I can only take this to guess that no issues have been fixed that have been mentioned here? I suppose i'll continue to wait before I upgrade to the latest.

5S's battery rocks

By Gerardo

5 years 5 months ago

At least on my 5S, the battery rocks! It's been 3 hours since I unplugged from charging while updating (it was at 100% charged); used it as always, a bit on Whatsapp, Twitterific and other tasks, and the battery as I write, is at 61%! Bravo Apple! Littel by little fixing these bugs! At this time if I were running iOS11.0, I'd be probably at around 40% battery. Keep up the great work!

to upgrade or not to upgrade?...

By Dawn 👩🏻‍🦯

Hi,

I've had thoughts about upgrading off and on periodically about whether upgrading is such a good idea since ios. 11 first dropped. And I've come to the conclusion that maybe I should hold off.

Recently though, I've been thinking about it more and more lately, because of some problems I've been having. Not big ones mind you, but little annoyances that can be the equivelent to 1,000 small papercuts!! If you know what I mean! I'm still on 10.3.3.

So, I'm wondering, if I should continue to hold off, or if I can/should bite the bullet and upgrade now. I think soon Apple's going to force me because I'm getting the notification in my settings that an update is available. Hasn't downloaded itself yet. So, I'm wondering: Should I upgrade now, or continue to wait? Thank you!

There are still some bugs, but I think you will live…

Bro, if you don’t have such a heavy dependency on your phone or iPad, you will always find a way around these bugs. After all, the more of us using The software and reporting these bugs to Apple, the better. Just jump in the train. There is plenty of room.

Wait

Wait for iOS 11.1 which suppose to fix major bugs. FYI. if you use news app, Voiceover does not say unreadto the articles you have not read. I hear this is not a bug and they are not planning to fix it. Hope it is, because I use it a lot and tend to forget which article I read.

Beeping

By Holger Fiallo

Well the bug in iOS 11.0.3 still there. If you are using Bluetooth headset and voiceover whenever you move around you hear a beep. It is very strong and it hurts. It comes and goes. I will report this because it hurts my ear.

I've noticed the beeping problem well before iOS 11 and it is annoying but nothing new. Hopefully, they'll fix it.

Never had this issue. Today a senior person from apple accessibility is calling me to look into this. It seems that it goes away when I am using the phone and talking to someone. roubleshoot

iPhone 7 Audio Issue

By DPinWI

5 years 5 months ago

My main issue with iOS 11 was a problem with crackling and breakup when listening to audio, while the phone was trying to download content by either WiFi or cellular. Since I have an iPhone 7, I hoped the mention of an audio fix for this device was in the update. So far, so good, but since the issue wasn't constant or reproducible consistently, I am not completely convinced it is gone.

That said, I'm happy it seems to be addressed.

Apple claimed the 11.0.2 fix was to deal with the audio issue. Were you having it even after that update?

Depends on headset and audio ducking

By Shawn T

In reply to beeping by Kerby

This has been around for multiple versions of iOS, and varies in how often it happens on different headsets. Try playing with audio ducking, or having some audio playing in the background. You could use a white noise app like Relax melodies. My aftershokz don't do this, but one of my LG's does this more often.

FYI. was told anyone who has this issue of beeping all the time in your Bluetooth headset to email at apple.com/feedbackIt looks like they want to blame the Bluetooth devise instead of iOS 11.

Sorry to see that dealing with mail messages is still hit and mi

By peter

I understand that there are always bugs to be squashed in new releases, but I am very disappointed to see how unreliable is still is when dealing with mail messages in the mail app, even after three updates.

When performing a single finger double tap on a mail message in the list of messages, one still can't be certain whether the action taken will be the default action of "activating" ("opening")the message or whether the action taken will be the same as the last action performed. This leads to mistakes if one doesn't always swipe up and down through the list of actions to check before performing the desired

Although some have suggested this behavior of the action to be taken being the same as the last action taken (was a design decision on Apple's part, I'm hoping this is wrong since this is unlike how the actions item list works in any other app and only leads to the experience of unreliability and erratic on the part of the user.

Post updating to 11.0.3, I have not had the audio issue I was experiencing. Now that more than 24 hours have passed, I am feeling pretty good about the fix.

One thing seems to be fixed though.

It looks like text selection is now reliable again. At first, it would not select text from where I wanted to start my selection. Now it seems to be fixed.

Audio issue

By Ipadman

5 years 5 months ago

I'm just wondering if anyone else face is an issue where when streaming audio and the screen locks, The audio stops playing.
I can usually use the two finger magic tap to restart the audio from where it left off once the screen is unlocked, and it doesn't seem to happen in Safari but does in other apps.

Depending upon the app, it may not be set up to run when the screen is locked.

Problem with Alarm

By JeffB

5 years 5 months ago

On my iPod Touch I noticed a few times that instead of my alarm going off Voiceover just kept saying screen dimmed over and over. This happened before and after the 11.0.3 update. Audio ducking is off and the touch doesn't have a mute switch.

Hi,

Hi,
This might sound like a stupid question, but is the screen locked when the alarm is going off? Or, is your auto lock set to another value then the default? I always set it to never, because it can't stand the auto-lock, it's very annoying. If I were to set an alarm, i'd lock the screen and see if that fixes the screen dimmed thing.

Its locked

By JeffB

My iPod is locked before I go to bed. Also auto lock is on never since it doesn't have touch ID and I have to enter the passcode each time to unlock it.

A Little Rant, and No Word on Braille Display Bug Fixes?

By Chris Nusbaum

5 years 5 months ago

Frankly, for the first time, I'm beginning to become disillusioned with Apple. I can't possibly be the only blind user bringing the many accessibility bugs in iOS 11 to Apple's attention, both directly through emails and indirectly through forums like this one. Yet now we're 3 patches in and no indication from Apple that the VO bugs have been addressed. Though I remain deeply grateful for Apple's efforts in the access arena, this version and the company's lack of response is a little frustrating to me.
On a lighter note, I upgraded to the iPhone 7 this weekend and iOS 11 appears to be running much better on this phone than it did on my old 6, as I expected. I also notice that it seems to be more responsive to my Braille display now, though I haven't played with it enough yet to discern a pattern. So, I wonder if the Braille bugs were fixed in this patch or if I've just been lucky so far?

RE: A Little Rant

By sockhopsinger

You won't see any major accessibility bugs being fixed until possibly the first major numeric upgrade, i.e. 11.1. It has always been this way with Apple. The minor updates, i.e. x.0.1 or x.0.2, have, to my knowledge, very rarely if ever contained any accessibility fixes.

Audio Problem

By DPinWI

5 years 5 months ago

Alas my woes continue. Whenever the phone is doing podcatching stuff, it's possible that bluetooth audio gets very choppy and crackles in and out. Stopping and restarting playback sometimes helps. Toggling VO off, then on, sometimes helps. And sometimes, it works perfectly.

One thing I've noticed is

By Brian Giles

5 years 5 months ago

One thing I've noticed is that using the new Siri voice with VoiceOver seems to be improving in responsiveness. I've noticed enough of a difference that I've deleted Alex off my phone. The only annoying thing is that mostly in safari VoiceOver will reboot itself. I've also set up compact samantha as a secondary voice if I need quick responsiveness, but it's the new Siri voice about 90% of the time for me.
