I would never suggest learning French only by ear, but you have added issues here with VoiceOver pronouncing the French phrases. So flick through letter by letter to get the spelling and pronunciations. VoiceOver does a nice job with the accented characters though. VO says the name of the button after you push it, so it talks over the native speaker recordings: listen closely or turn VO off.
And, it's funny, too. I'm not sure I totally agree with the 4+ rating as I listen to the Australian traveler dude chatting up the young French woman on the train: that alone is worth the download!
