Description of App:
From the AppStore:
Bright Guide is a convenient messenger designed specifically for blind people and working with the Voice Over screen access program. The Bright Guide application allows you to send text and voice messages, images and documents, as well as subscribe to popular channels in Telegram.
In the interface of the Bright Guide application, all the buttons are conveniently located, there are no extra headers and not always necessary notifications, which are often found when using Voice Over.
We also thought out and added some convenient features that can please users:
— In order not to return to the "Back" button every time, you can double-click on the screen of the phone with two fingers. This activates the "Back" button in all places of the application
— By sending a voice message, you can always listen to it before sending it, overwrite it or simply delete it
— Being in the chat with a user, scrolling up or down, you can select the function you need for further action
— We also developed a special search system “Alphabetical Index”. It allows you to search quickly through your contacts by the first letter of the name or surname with Voice Over. For example, choosing the letter "B", you activate the search for users whose first or last name begins with the letter "B"
Perhaps in the process of using the application, you will have questions, suggestions or just comments that you want to share with us. You can always contact us in the support service section!

Accessibility Comments:
The application is very accessible because it is an application developed specifically for blind people. At the moment it does not include all the features present in the standard Telegram application, but it allows access to individual conversations and groups in a fully accessible manner. The operation is very comfortable because most of the options are included in the actions of the rotor.

#1 ipad?
Submitted by Brian Tew on
It doesn't seem to work on ipad.
Also the contact email bright.guide@4blind.com
does not work.
#2 files?
Submitted by KE7ZUM on
Can you access your files and links that people send? This is a big beaf with me with the current telegram, or does the API not allow that. I find this is theproblem with most of the telegram spin offs I use.
#3 Also a bit of an add on here.

Also a bit of an add on here. If the 2x button is not thee in this app I won't touch it as I listen to everythign at 2 times speed. And continues play needs to be ther as well. I will be trying this app, hopefully later today.
#4 bug in the app when logging in.
Submitted by KE7ZUM on
Ok, so far I'm not impressed, but it might be me. I enter in my number to log on and it saysincorect phone number." I know ery well my number is correct. I enter the area code, prefix, and last 4 without dashes. The country is correct. Canthis be looked into?
Update. I tried relaunching the app, and I get an error on the screen to start out with. Here is the screen cap link for those that can see it. This really needs to be looked into as for now you can't even log in, or register with your number.

#5 I'm Confused
Submitted by sockhopsinger on
So is this app to be used in conjunction with telegram, or is this a stand-alone app for us blindies to send little messages back and forth? :)
#6 the phone number entry did work for me

You need ten digits all strung together.
#7 Here's Some Thoughts
Submitted by Octocorn on
I tried this today and I'm not impressed. I also had some issues while registering (I'm not Telegram user) and I got Incorrect for the phone number but it went well after hiting the Next button.
I found some friends there and they joined me in the group chat. It didn't work. I couldn't find edit field to type. There are also no rotor options to write the message or reply in the group chat.
In single chat this seem to work more or less but needs some improovements. There are some useless info spoken via Voice Over and again, some things are inconvinient.
Developers asigned two-finger double tap as back although there's a Z scrub. There's a separate Dictate button although it should be on the keyboard and the magic tap while in active edit field. After you activate Reply option via Rotor you are positioned on the field but the field is not active so you need to double tap to get the keyboard.
More than few times app stopped responding and Voice Over was out of focus.
To conclude, I'm not happy at all with this app. I installed regular Telegram and managed to do a lot more than with Bright Guide.
#8 I tried the 10 numbers and I
Submitted by KE7ZUM on
I tried the 10 numbers and I also got the error. It didn't work at all. If my number was 5555551222 I would enter that and I got incorrect phone number. Sofar in my book until they fix stuff this appis a fail and does not deserve to be on my podcast, not yet.
#9 I contacted the dev regarding

I contacted the dev regarding the issue and so far no response. Is this going to be another telegram fail?
#10 no problems here

No problems here. I was able to register just fine.
#11 How odd. You chose the prefix
Submitted by KE7ZUM on
How odd. You chose the prefix etc? This happens on first launch of the app with out me even touchign anything.

And in my case everythig is shown. If I put in my phone number I get that it is invalid., but it is valid. I know how to enter aphone number. Lol!
#12 Work-around
Submitted by tunmi13 on
The work-around is you have to type the number with dashes in the required places. For example, like this:
1 2 3, dash, 4 5 6, dash, 7 8 9 0
Hope this helps.
#13 Uh, Oh wow? That's odd It
Submitted by KE7ZUM on
Uh, Oh wow? That's odd It does not say that in the help. I'm actually surprised that the bright guide folks still have not gotten back to me, and I sent an email last week. So poor support in my humble opinion.
#14 didn't need
Submitted by Joseph on
I didn't need to put the country code before my number. neither did I have to put dashes in there. It just worked.
#15 Update, entering dashes won't
Submitted by KE7ZUM on
Update, entering dashes won't be possible with out a bt keyboard as there is no dash key or shit key on the number only pad. They mean only numbers in the hint.
#16 Ok, so I entered in the code
Submitted by KE7ZUM on
Ok, so I entered in the code it gave me but it says wrong code. I've triple checked and still wrong code. So far this app is a fail. And the is no way to request a send again of a code. This app is not really meeting my high expectations of what an app should be. And the support is horable if they can't even get back to you in a week.
#17 Now that, is weird Sarah,

Now that, is weird Sarah, very weird! Not even I had that problem. Hmmm...
#18 1 star in my book for this app
Submitted by KE7ZUM on
Ok, after logging in I have to give this app a 0.5 star
1. The settings; contacts and chats are on one screen. This is very minimalistic in my humble opinion. Why not have a menu at the top with all of that.
2. Replying to and sending messages in a chat you are already in is impossible. I don't see an edit field or voice control or file control or even the media part where you can access poles and files on your device anywhere.
3. When I access settings the screen looks blank, so i cannot explore by touch and there are not that many settings to deal with. Come on, give us the telegram settings and a lot more to play with. This app is half baked and over all not the best choice. I'd say it is hardly accessible in my humble opinion. Entering in the autho code took a reopen of the app and I had to use the key pad on the iOs to do it and not the the bt keyboard. I do not recommend this app to anyone until the devs make this app a lot better. This app will get a 1 star on the app store when I have time to leave a review.
#19 Improve Main Client Instead
Submitted by Robert Spangler on
Hello, with all due respect to the dev, I'm not a fan of these specialized apps for the blind, when there is already a primary app. The best idea would be to approach the developer and inform them of any accessibility issues present in the official app. I imagine that they would be willing to improve it; the app used to be crap accessibility-wise on Android, but they improved it significantly over the past six months.
That being said, there are times when a specific app for us is appropriate, especially if the developer is not listening and there is high demand for us to use it. In this case, I support the developer, but the aforementioned issues should be remedied, and the dev should be responding to user contact attempts.
