Accessibility Comments

Clean, straight-forward menus that adjust to increases in text size nicely. Large play/pause buttons and easy to read text in the workout section.

The app is fully accessible either using voiceover (if needed) or without it (but using larger text size). When the workout is playing, there is a count down timer and an elapsed time bar that are not announced by voiceover. But, the app's voice gives a good sense of when one is getting near the end of an exercise.
For those who have low vision or are blind, the detailed descriptions do a very good job of explaining how to do the exercises. These descriptions are useful to everyone when first encountering a new exercise.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

Other Comments

There is a "Pro" version available (in-app purchase) with more options for all aspects of designing a workout.

I keep going in circles with this app

By Troy B

2 years 2 months ago

I just installed this app yesterday and I haven't bought any of the in-app purchases, but I keep going in circles when trying to learn how to set up a workout.

The create a workout tab is selected, but I tap on type on the first screen and then on the second screen I choose pick me up for example, then I choose the area of the body I want to work on on the next screen. I think I pick duration on the next screen, but that's where I seem to start going in circles and it starts showing me things that I've chosen on previous screens. Help please?

Notes on "Create Workout"

In reply to I keep going in circles with this app by Troy B

The "Create Workout" page has six sections: Type (quick session, full session, etc); Body Area (full, lower body, etc); Duration; Difficulty (light, mellow, etc); Style (agility and mobility, low impact, etc); and Reps per Exercise.

It is the case that when you go into a section and make a choice, the app (with voicover) goes back to the "create workout" page at the section at the top of the current page. You have to swipe right to get to the next section. Given how I have large text, when I select from the first 3 sections the app (with voiceover) goes back to the Type section. When I have gotten to the Difficulty section, the app goes back to the Body Area section, and so forth.

This is annoying of course (suggestions for the developer about this would be helpful). Note that the "Design my workout"button is always available near the bottom on the "Create workout" page so you do not have to make a selection in each section, only ones you want to change from workout to workout.

Thanks Bob, I'll try it again with what you said in mind.

I've made a new year's resolution to start exercising so I was excited when I found the fitness coach app mentioned in the monthly applevis newsletter, I mostly walk for exercise but occasionally I want to mix things up and I think this app will be just the thing to allow me to do that.

I think the create workout screen could be smoother to navigate. We could adjust the values with the rotor, for example.

Thanks for your feedback! I'm not sure if there have been any changes in Apple's Voiceover product causing this behaviour. In any case, I'll look into it based on your feedback, and see if I can make it simpler to use!

figured it out

I opened the app yesterday evening and was able to set up a simple workout.

I like how audio instructions are given for how to do the different exercises because since I'm totally blind I of course can't see how the exercises are done, and I haven't done any strength exercises in over 30 years and back then I used the school weight room and so wasn't doing body weight exercises. Even if these exercises existed way back then then I never knew about them.

There may be some ways that this app could be improved but I won't know until I get into it a little bit and get further along in what I want to do. What I set up last night was easy once I knew how the app works.
